August 1, 2001 at 12:50 pm #64353
SGParticipantHey It worked!
Thanks For doing this Jeremiah!I put Moore/Renaldo and Shields/Butcher together because I did`nt like the idea of either of them seperate,so together they are!
Maybe I should have picked more than five, maybe I`ll do another sometime.

Wow, looks like you’ve got some music to check up on…
Bob Mould == Husker Du, Sugar
D. Boon == Minutemen (Mike Watt’s legendary old band.)
Ira Kaplan == Yo La Tengo
All very good stuff… You should check it out.

SGParticipantSpaceboy-I think on your poll people here were wondering who Will Oldham is!I`m a Will fan like you so he got my vote.
Bob Mould was in a great 80`s punk/indie band called Husker Du,he did some solo albums also and had a band in the 90`s called Sugar.Allison and I often talk about him and fellow Husker Du bandmate Grant Hart.
Ira Kaplan-He`s in a band called Yo La Tengo, who sound like the Velvet Underground and Sonic Youth, sometimes slow and quiet, sometimes loud and rockin.
D. Boon-He was in a band called the Minutemen,Mike Watt was their bass player, this was back in the 80`s,Boon died in a car accident in 1985,that broke up the Minitemen and they reformed as Firehose with a new guitarist and singer,of course Watt now has been playing recently with J.August 1, 2001 at 3:16 pm #64356

AGAPParticipantHey Spaceboy,
Some suggestions…
Any Sugar, they have tons of singles/EP’s as well as a couple of full length releases FUEL and Copper Blue…both are wickedly cool guitar pop…very very sweeet!!! Beaster is my current fav Sugar EP…Tilted my fav song.
Grant Hart…If you can find it Intolerance is amazing, The single 2541 is definitely worth a listen…he is a great singer/songwriter…one of a kind!!! Have seen him several times, last time just a couple months ago…very cool. He has played Amsterdam many times so think you will be able to find some of his tunes.
Husker Du….Candy Apple Grey, Flip Your Wig and Warehouse are pretty much must haves
Hope you enjoy the new sounds

SGParticipantYo La Tengo`s album from last year was different from their other albums,I do recommend listening to it again though;here`s some of my picks to check out from these bands:
Yo La Tengo-Electro A Pura or I can hear the heart beating as one;there`s more variety in terms of fast and slow songs than last year`s album, check either of these out.
Husker Du-New Day Rising:if you can find it,if not try Candy Apple Grey,it`s a good one to check out.Sugar`s Copper Blue is a good one for 90`s Mould stuff.
Minutemen-Double Nickels On The Dime ne of the 80`s best indie albums;a good introduction to their music.August 1, 2001 at 3:35 pm #64359
SGParticipantYeah Ira is in YLT.

No need for another poll, instrumentally, the other Pumpkin members aren’t worth their weight in lead, although Iha’s the man.

AGAPParticipantHey Spaceboy,
I forgot to mention any of Bob Moulds solo stuff, some of it can be pretty moody but still very cool. Black Sheets of Rain is pretty great but the last release…Last Dog And Pony Show had some great songs on it. So if any of those come up you might want to check them out as well.
