SGParticipantChris-if I`m correct, its from 1988 in Scotland;I think it`s Lou Barlow talking at the beginning and the "singing" is Lou as well.

ChrisParticipantHi Salamiguy,
Thanks for the follow up. I thought it may have been the female drummer that was with the band for a little while…and I say that because the pitch of the voice is so high with the yelling/screaming that you hear later in the song.
Thanks, ChrisFebruary 25, 2002 at 11:20 pm #56966
JCrumbliecookiesParticipantChris,
Sweet Child-o-Mine was recorded 10/30/88 during the Bug tour in Basel, Switzerland, at the Kulturwerstatt Kaserne. The single and video had broke right before Dino left for the tour, and it was just in the air. Europe hadn’t heard it yet, and the band figured they’d provide a preview. J nailed that monster guitar opening in about a minute, but nobody wanted to sing it, so they asked vanmates Jon Fetler (he who was voted "Worst Roadie of the Year" by the Rapeman and Band of Susans roadies, who knew what they were talking about) and Megan Jasper (she sister of album-coverer Maura). It’s Jon on the Axel part while Megan screeches, and either Lou or J introducing. It’s the only time Dino ever played that tune anywhere. In addition to the audio, someone videoed the entire show. Now that would be a dino-junkie find, eh?February 26, 2002 at 1:55 am #56967
Randy JaneParticipantWho did the screams on Chunks, The Little Baby, Bulbs of Passion and Little Furry Things?

ChrisParticipantI just want to first say thanks to those of you who held my hand and got me started downloading music from Audiogalaxy.
I have listened to the Dinosaur Jr. version of "Sweet Child of Mine"…… and my first question is who is that talking at the start and who is singing and yelling during the song? My second question would be if anyone knows the date of the show and what the location was? Thanks to all. Chris

SGParticipantThanks for the info JCrumbliecookies
RJ-The Little Baby and Bulbs Of Passion is J screaming;Little Fury Things is Lou;Chunks I`m not sure about,Lou might have been gone at that point, maybe;I think it`s J.

ChrisParticipantThanks JCrumbliecookies for all the info…that was great of you to help us out with all the specific information about the song and show. You are very right that it would be great to also see that show or even just that one song.
If anyone has access to that show PLEASE PLEASE consider contacting our fine FreakScene friends to get that up and running for everyone to view.
I really have to say I’m impressed with everyones helpful information. Sincerely, Chris

ChrisParticipantOk I have yet another question about this song/preformance? I may also post this question to the Guitar Geek to see if it can get a reply.
Let me first point out that I donwloaded the version of this song from Audiofalaxy as mentioned before so specific time is related to this version which lasts for 6:47.
During the song when J is playing a guitar riff he changes the sound Completely. This happens two times during the song at 2:59 and lasts till almost 3:03 and once more from 4:01 to 4:05. Like I said the change in sound is only for a few notes of the song so by giving it a listen I don’t think anyone would have a problem hearing the difference.
…………..My Question is……What effect is J using for the sound change????? I can’t say I have heard anything like it and think it is really cool. Anyone…Anyone…Anyone
If I don’t get a reply back I’ll post to guitar geek. Thanks for anyones help. Chris

SGParticipantChris-the version I heard of it sounds like a chorus pedal to me,I`m no expert on effects so maybe you should ask in the guitar geek section.

ChrisParticipantHi Salamiguy,
I’ll give the guitar geeks a try and see what they think, but thanks for your insight. I’m a learning guitar player myself so any help is welcome. Thanks, Chris

trensidohParticipantI´d like to correct something, and shed a little light on the screaming:
It´s Lou screaming on Bulbs, not J (J couldn´t bother – can you imagine J screaming ?)
I´t´s also Lou on Chunks (& Mountain Man, as well) Lou also ´sings´ Don´t (until he had to cough blood) – The Little baby – possibly J (Lou was out when it came out), but hard to imagine. Hit me if I´m wrong.March 19, 2002 at 4:03 pm #56974
ammaringnycParticipantLee Renaldo screams on Little Fury things.

bobParticipant"ammaringnyc" wrote:Lee Renaldo screams on Little Fury things.I think that Lou screams at the begiining of this.
Lee sings the verses. (I recognize the voice as Lee and it’s just too smooth to be J) (Weird how they had a guest singer on one of their most famous songs)
J sings the bridge and sings along with Lee on the outro(last verse).
