OriginalPosterLostParticipantWe’ve all heard J’s excellent rendition of
"goin’ blind" on the KISS tribute album.
Wouldn’t it be cool if J made an album of
covers? I’m totally serious here, no joking
around, I think it would totally rock if
J covered "My Heart will Go On" by Celine
Dion with a 15 minute guitar solo in the
middle. He could sing it in his high voice
like on "not the same" from the Where You
Been album. What song would you most like J to cover???

OriginalPosterLostParticipantAs a Canadian there will always be some embarassment being associated with Celine Dion, Anne Murray and the dreaded Alannis..but what can you do.
I would love to hear J do City Slang by Sonics Rendezvous Band…..that would be so cool.

OriginalPosterLostParticipantYea, I second that. Like A Hurricane the J way would be mind blowing! I also think it would be cool if he covered Hendrix’ Let Me Stand Next To Your Fire.

OriginalPosterLostParticipantFree – Alright Now
J could make the solo even more kick-ass than it is already.

OriginalPosterLostParticipantHi Allison, I know J sometimes played City Slang, I don’t remember exactly if with Hellride East(J+Watt+Murph)or with the Fog.
Anyway i’d like to hear J coverin’ Cortez the Killer, one of all time best rock songs.
December 15, 2000 at 10:31 am #53340
OriginalPosterLostParticipantYeah, I agree J would make ‘Cortez’ a great cover.
What about a 15(?) minute version as Built To Spill did on their previous record?

OriginalPosterLostParticipantTime Has Told Me – Nick Drake.
Lou murdered one of his (Pink Moon – think it was on Smash Your Head on the Punk Rock), so its about time that one of the ex-dino’s did one some justice!
It’s got the country feel (and he’s done at least one Gram Parsons cover so this should be a breeze)

AGAPParticipantHey Nolimits,
Thanks for the info, I had no idea he already played that song live. It is a killer song and J would be one of the few able to play the song the way it should be!!!
Allison
ps the Hellacopters do a pretty cool version …don’t bother with the Wayne Kramer cover of this incredible song it just did not work at all, they played it all wrong…go figure

OriginalPosterLostParticipantHey,
I have another song as apparently J already plays my pick City Slang…..wow would I like to hear them do that!! Its by the same band Sonics Rendezvous Band…Electrophonic Tonic. Horrible name but wicked song, tons of great guitar, I would want J to sing this one as well as the guitar.

OriginalPosterLostParticipantUnfortunately,Turnipfarmer, I’ve never listen to the Built to spill cover, I have to get the record.Keep it like a secret was a great album.Curiosity, while I’m posting this one I’m listen to Halo Benders( Doug Marsh from BtS+Calvin Jhonson from Beat Happening, nice cd). I know J is a big Nick Drake fan.I have a J all time favs records list from Pulse magazine and Pink Moon from Nick Drake ranks the 7th position. One of these days i’m going to post this list.
December 18, 2000 at 5:55 am #53345
OriginalPosterLostParticipantYou should definitely get that record. The version of Built to Spill is actually longer than 20 minutes, and it’s amazing! For me, they’re the only ones that can get close to playing guitar on J’s level.

OriginalPosterLostParticipantAbsolutely, this album is really worth buying as well as all the other BTS records. Should be amazing listening to sitting beneath the xmas tree.
But now back to the topic. I guess another Cure cover should be fine, e.g. "Catch" – I wonder how the solo would sound like…

slackerdanParticipantGood to see the Neil Young suggestions. I’d love to hear J cover ‘Cowgirl In The Sand’, especially with Watt on bass!

ruudmParticipantMuch Agreement about the BTS song but I am thinking, cause I liked the cover of Jet Plane that J should do something totally different and make it his like Do you really want to hurt me by culture club. Just so he can take some weird pop song and make it kick ass like only J can
