duaneParticipantfaun (fôn) n. Roman Mythology.
Any of a group of rural deities represented as having the body of a man and the horns, ears, tail, and sometimes legs of a goat.Maybe called a faun in Georgia, we call ’em inlaws in Arkansas.

and that would be Rome, Georgia ( A small cult formed around Faunus in a sacred forest outside of Rome) …..so the plot thickens…..and gets more savory. Could involve Vic Chesnutt, Howard Finsters daughters, and a couple of Dinosaur Jr fans I let sleep in my house a while back…………..and perhaps Kevin Sweeney judging from those ummm photos from Chicago, it’s going to take some time to answer the Georgia Faun question, but rest assured it’s being contemplated.

Ever see Great Balls of Fire? As Jerry Lee and his buddy are listening to some rock and roll Jerry’s buddy looks at him and says "That’s the Devils misic, Jerry"
Jerry Lee says "Yeahhh"December 7, 2005 at 7:12 pm #113362
AnnastefkaParticipantSG can you come again with that link? Or is it me?
December 8, 2005 at 7:43 am #113363
SGParticipantThat link was working when I posted it
I`ll try it this way…
Are those the lights you see in the sacred forest near Rome,GA?
December 8, 2005 at 7:55 pm #113364
AnnastefkaParticipantThose look like the kind of lights you would see before the anesthesia settles in.

AnnastefkaParticipantI want to add and keep this crazy thread going. I had a thought, much like J’s little fury things, perhaps faun is really a misspelling for some very well know Georgia icons, ones we see in great quantities of especially this time of year………….could have been trying to say Georgia Fans, of which Athens has many, many or it perhaps was meant to be Georgia fawn’s which Athens also has many, many of ……left orphaned by many a hunter and car.
December 9, 2005 at 8:58 am #113366
SGParticipantI thought it might be fawn too but it always comes up as faun in anything I read.Brown is from Atlanta originally by the way.His most famous recording was on Coltrane`s Ascension album which is just insane
The Pigman sounds like inlaws again

AnnastefkaParticipantOkay SG, now we are on to something good, You know I am a lover of music Coltrane, but you are correct the Ascension album made one stop and say about John Coltrane "I’m not so sure he is a musical genius perhaps he is insane"
because that album is just insane as you say……….. We have a huge assortment of instruments at this house and when we get a collection of children together my husband often gives them all something to play and we make videos or records them, and several months ago I was listening to the album Ascension and my son asked "Is that us playing", I found an example………this could be my 6 year old daughter on drums…………it sounds exactly like her, and that could be her 1 year old brother on the piano, I mean that is a 1 year old boy playing the piano, so help me Jesus.

SGParticipantI`ve heard Ascension before and yeah your kids should make a free jazz record
to bring in a Mascis connection,Mike Watt said he used to play that album during intermission when he was in The Minutemen
he said the punks kept yelling ‘what the fuck is that!’
I found the 2001 reissue cover of Afternoon Of A Georgia Faun and I can`t tell if that`s ‘fawn’ or ‘faun’.It looks like ‘fawn’ kinda…

Speaking of kids playing music,Ornette Coleman`s 1966 album The Empty Foxhole had his son Denardo on drums.Denardo was 9 years old at the time.
Buddy Rich started playing drums at 18 months old -
