nickParticipantI was wondering does Watt have enough to jam with J, or not?

AGAPParticipantHey,

nickParticipantIndeed, we all have our opinions. Mike is awesome, he sat back and let j do his thing and got respect for that. That is what made him so great to the trio, unselfishness. I have only seen Watt twice, not enough times to get a solid opinion, however he does create a great vibe on stage that I never saw in Mike. Whoever the bass player is, one thing is for sure, thanks for getting J back out on the stage. He rocks the jam…

umascowParticipantwatt is great on bass. yes this is true. sorry though, thats all he is. he doesn’t make j’s songs better by any way. go back and listen to mike johnson live. watt just adds chaos to the songs.i admit he’s amazing on the bass maybe the best i’ve ever heard, but honestly he dissapoints me in every song especially the old dinosaur jr songs. mike johnson was a perfect fit for the songs.

SGParticipantWatt is as good on bass as J is on guitar.I don`t think there is a better bass player in punk/indie/alt rock circles.I heard an interview with mike around the time of ball hog;he seemed to be a fast thinking guy who knows alot about music and playing it.I think J and Mike are a great team.

SamwiseParticipantAs for the musical part I kinda agree about Watt adding lots of chaos (which has cons and pros). But if you talk about putting up a show… Watt’s the best. He’s the one that makes you jump and scream at the concerts, not J. The only show I saw with Johnson was the 97 bizarre, and he looked all stoned. I just really like the way George and Watt form a team. Definetly a good rythemsection.

eggwaterParticipantfuck, If I had the choice of bass players…Watt’d be Number one to play on any of my songs. Not only his a super bass player, he has the right head too…very smart guy.
I’d like to hear what they’d sound like if George Hurley played drums…bit like Blaze by Firehose I guess?!

</STRONG><HR></BLOCKQUOTE>I agree, I think Watt is great on bass (I play[ed] bass as well) Don’t understand what it is people would not dig about his playing.
Definately a hero of mine and to see him share the stage with J was really a treat And yes I agree, he is a VERY smart guy!

stillchoppinParticipantWatt gets me shakin’ and jumpin’ and screamin’ and sweatin’ and, and, and… Good God man, look at the way he sweats! No one does it like Mr. Mike Watt. He seems like the coolest too with his manner. You know – WATT STYLE!!!

JavroModeratorWatt is by far the best bass player I have ever seen, but Mike J was amazing. It was always a real contrast seeing him, J and Murph together. (Do you think they brought MJ in to attract a few hunnies to the gigs? Couldn’t accuse Watt of being brought in for that reason!)
Talking of MJ, there was a Dinosaur Jr track played on a Peel session a long time ago with MJ doing the vocals. I think it was called Noon at Dawn (Noon at dawn fades in just as clear, I can’t remember your name but your voice always rings in my head). Anyone know where that came from or if it is on vinyl/cd anywere?
Actually reading what I have just written doesn’t make too much sense. Noon at dawn. How the fuck can you have noon at dawn? Must have been called something else. Damn. I’ve been singing absolute rubbish for the past ten years. Would love to know what it’s called please.
Thanks.

jeremiahKeymaster Nonsense wins on this one
Noon at Dawn is the track name. Not sure about its origin though..

SGParticipant`Noon at Dawn` sounds like a Mingus song title;Mingus once had a song called` Tonight at Noon`.
