HalfmanParticipantI remember reading in either AP or one of those DIY cassette inserts that J once belonged to a metal band called Upsidedown Cross. Does anyone know who else was in that band, when they recorded and anything else that would explain this seemingly odd occurrance? Thanks, Tom

AGAPParticipantHey,
J played drums on one release pretty much all I know about that satanic metal band deal.

HalfmanParticipantAllison,
Thanks again for your reply. The blurb did say it was a satanic metal band, but I read about them maybe 10 years ago, so wasn’t sure about the satan part till you mentioned it. The drumming bit I remember as well. That part is not so odd, especially if that was J playing drums on "How’d you pin that one on me". He definitely can handle a thrash tempo

Per Bearz, I did check scores at begin of 4th qtr and it looked like a classic FG contest .[ August 19, 2001 12:11 AM: Message mutated 1 time, lastly by Halfman ]

SGParticipantThere`s a video by them at launch.com so we should check that out to see if J is in it.

HalfmanParticipantSalamiguy,
I tried to access http://www.launch.com, but for reasons unk, I got a Windows "illegal operations" window and had to close the program. Tried to log on twice same thing.
Additionally, I honestly have never tried to run a music video on the ‘puter, much less any of the mp3’s . Long story, transcript infinite. Either way, I can’t check launch. If you can, I would be very appreciative. If you feel like helping me get up to speed with the rest of cyberbornia, also, I would be n your debt. Thanks,

SGParticipantHalfman-I checked Launch,J is not in the video, the video is from 93.
By the way,I thought you`s find it cool that I can link Sleater Kinney to J.Sleater`s first 2 albums were on Chainsaw records, owned and operated by Donna Dresch;Donna played bass with J after Lou Barlow left.

HalfmanParticipantSalamiguy,
Thanks for the Launch scoop. I will carry on the Upsidedown Cross investigation a bit more myself until or unless I run into unmovalbe obstacles. I am still to be your video/ mp3 student if you are willing though. It is time I got with it. I might be in the wrong forum for that. If so someone get me straight, please.See Sleater-Kinney thread for my reply, if you like. Again, I appreciate your help.

my name is lisaParticipantYes, Upsidedown Cross is a "satanic" metal band. J is the drummer on the album.I was a little curious so I actually got a copy for like $3. Unless you are an avid GG Allin fan, I wouldn’t recommend it.With songs like "kill for satan" and "batallion of rats" this album is not for the typical "freakscene" or "feel the pain" lovin’ Mascis fan. It’s truely tormenting music. The drumming is the only thing holding it together and the "singer" Larry Lifeless sounds like he’s got a few problems- if you know what I mean.

maxiniParticipantHey, just thought I’d inform you that it’s possible to hear audio samples of the self-titled album that J plays drums on at amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/music/B000000ES5/qid=998339575/sr=1-2/002-1341614-9103236

HalfmanParticipantGave this thread an hour yesterday to gather more info. Unfortunately, I have not "struck gold" yet in clarifiying the ties to J. For that matter, I do not know how much more I should dig into this. The feeling I get is that this is info that might not be readily accessible for a reason. The last thing I want to do is piss people off over this, be it J, the admin or anyone else. I surmise this might become very sensitive if explored too deeply. The intent all along was to improve my own knowledge and perhaps maintain or embellish upon the historical trail J has blazed in his performing times that this board has so wonderfully documented. Any feedback at all would be appreciated, good, bad or neutral.
As for latest findings, Larry Lifeless was listed playing for a band called Kilslug and another called Angry Hate with a gentleman named Seth Putnam of a band called AC. Also, Upsidedown Cross was still playing as of 1999. For an article on them, go to http://www.worcesterphoenix.com/archive/music/99/08/20/ON_THE_ROCKS html. The article also mentions a multiband event called MAFIO. Any info on that would be nice as well.

turnipfarmerParticipantI purchased this record for a couple of deutschmarks from ebay a few weeks back to complete my collection, and I fully share your opinion, lisa. It’s just not worth buying and it’s far off the typical J/Dino sound. I only gave it a listen once and ejected it after song 3 I believe. Any further explanations needed?
Here’s the complete playlist:
1 Upsidedown cross
2 Kill for Satan
3 Redrum
4 Hanging witches
5 Battalion of rats
6 Bloodmobile
7 Mass in blood
8 The cup
It was released in 1991.
J also produced "Freezer Burn" from Gobblehoof which came out in 1992.
