For the record, this email was not intended for the message board. George sent it out to a list of friends to let them know he was ok after the accident. I left it in its entirety. Berz is pretty passionate about politics as well. When I first met him it was right before the election. We talked around 3 hours, 80% of which were politics.

Why would the political insite of any U.S. citizen be less due to a public profession? When it becomes so, we will be bordering on communism.

Just thought that was a strange/pointed type of comment.
Sort of like it would justify:

Ummmmm…..attributing the economic good standing of the US for the last 20 years (not just eight, as many want you to believe) to the Clinton administration is a complete riot. Ya think it may have had something to do with the technological revolution?? Or maybe…just maybe, the last ten years or so may have given us a "false economy" of sorts. Credit can be a very bad thing.

It cracks me up that people will bash the Reagan/Bush years as "mismanagement" while turning a blind eye to the fierce corruption which will likely put the US in great danger (China has many "rogue nation" friends in the world, ya know). Can anybody point to even a shred of competent energy policy during the Clinton administration?? I suppose folks on the left will be pointing to the huge deficit during the ’80’s…..blaming it on Reagen b/c, everybody knows, he constructed the budgets, correct?? And putting an end to the Cold War….hell, that pales in comparison to enacting "don’t ask, don’t tell" policies.

Hager……I do understand your plight. I get my friends all worked up about personal freedom, liberty and responsibility as well as pointing out how we are SEVERELY over-taxed, much of that money spent on pork-barrel projects used as leverage to get representitives elected. They agree with every word. They get mad. They get upset. Then they vote for Gore or Nader b/c "conservatives are mean." I’ve got a feeling i’m less Libertarian and more of a Conservative than you…..but I understand your point well, none the less. I’m sure you know by now that when discussing politics with a leftist, if you don’t agree with them, it’s "obviously" b/c you don’t TRULY understand, don’t follow the issues or are just plain dumb (ya know, like Harvard Business Grad GeeDub). Jeez! The last thing that I was thinking about when I wrote that thing was creating a political discourse. I do believe that everyone has a right to spout their opinion. I certainly find the vast majority of politicians inthis country to be utterly repugnant. This certainly includes Clinton/Gore as well as George W. It’s just that I find the Christian Right agenda, which holds a disproportionate sway in the Republican Party, to be more scary than the Democrats pablum. I mean you’re getting fucked either way.
I also think that this country gets the politicians it deserves. I can’t believe how many of MY friends don’t vote. I think that it’s every citizens duty to be well informed, and vote in EVERY election, both local and national. I’m sick of listening to people bitching about Giuliani, and then telling me that they didn’t vote. I bitch about him, but I voted against the prick TWICE!
Lastly, I would like to put my feelings at the time in context. We had just been in an accident, and we received top-notch care without sweating the bill. In our great land, that first day alone would have been about $20,000. I just think that it’s great that this is available to EVERY citizen of Sweden. I do not have health insurance. I make a middle class income, yet I have to be very careful about seeking medical services. I think that’s wrong. I feel that everyone should have unfettered access to quality healthcare and education. Then let the capitalist chips fall where thay may.

In our country (Netherlands) the most important task for the government is to protect its people and provide education, a place to live and health insurance for them, like providing enough hospitals and stuff. I had no idea this is still different in other countries like the U.S.
