I should’ve put Pavement… that was a big ommission. And because of my idioticy and inability to post a poll, Siamese by the Pumpkins wasn’t on their, too.

I must say though that I don’t consider Alanis Morisette, Spin Doctors, Green Day, Live… to be alt. rock
Nevertheless a nice pollAugust 10, 2001 at 3:37 pm #64484
SGParticipantI think it`s ok to call Alanis, spindoctors, live alt.
Alanis was a commercial marketing ploy of "angry women rock" which riot grrls did a couple of years before, they took the ideas of underground female rockers and smoothed it out, made it more pop,but still tried to keep it so called angry.I have nothing good to say about that woman.
If you want to hear real angry women you can check out Ani Difranco,Sleater Kinney,Bikini Kill/Le Tigre, etc.
Spindoctors-a joke
Live-never paid much attention to them.August 10, 2001 at 3:41 pm #64485

Live – few good records, but their LPs were mostly garbage.
Spin Doctors – I believe you called them "a joke"!?! Them there is fighting words!! That was the second CD I ever got after the Monkee’s Greatest Hits.

SGParticipantIf You like the Spindoctors,fine.
The Monkees were cooler though.
Bob Mould said once that Mike Nesmith was a good songwriter and could come up with a good melody.Oh Yeah-Green Day
Fugazi said once that Green day and the offspring are the ugly kid joes of the mid 90`s.
I agree on that.August 10, 2001 at 4:02 pm #64487

I agree on that.</STRONG><HR></BLOCKQUOTE>I wasn’t really mad, but the Spin Doctors did have some good songs (not their singles) early in their career.
Nesmith was by far the most talented of the Monkee’s…
Yeah, I’ll agree with the Fugazi statement… doesn’t revolutionize the way I like at Offspring or Green day, but OK

AGAPParticipantHey Salamiguy,
Alannis Morricrap is a horrifying example of not only Canadian music but the so called angry woman deal…ick If I could edit her part out of Dogma I would…

SGParticipantGood call Bartman!
Afghan Whigs-Black Love;that`s a great album,Gentlemen is my fav Whigs album.
The Whigs early songs are in a Dinosaur/Husker Du vein, like ‘Retarded’ is very J influenced,’Big Top Halloween’ is very Huskeresque.
Love the Whigs, wish more people would get into them.August 11, 2001 at 2:59 am #64490

Green Day’s low-grade punk… ok…
But what DO you call Morisette, Spin Doctors, and Live? I called them alt for lack of a better genre…
