Phillip B. Whitmore, Shana Hampton, and Teena Whitmore will exhibit works of art inspired by New Orleans at a benefit for Habitat for Humanity. The one evening show, entitled a city like no other, will take place on Monday, October 17, 2005 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm, at Bell Studio, 3428 N. Southport Avenue, Chicago. A live jazz band will be performing and appetizers will be served. The event is free and open to the public. All proceeds will be donated to Habitat for Humanity in an effort to help rebuild New Orleans.
Phillip B. Whitmore received his BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago. He has also studied in Italy and Greece, and has exhibited works in Italy, Illinois, New York, and Washington. His paintings and drawings are inspired by his travels around the globe.
Shana Hampton is a self-taught artist who works in mixed media. Her art incorporates vintage images and found objects. Her works can currently be seen throughout Chicago land.
Teena Whitmore’s photographs capture the essence of a place. She is inspired by the local culture and customs of places she visits. Her photos range from black and white prints to hand-colored Polaroid image and emulsion transfers.
Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 and has since built more than 175,000 houses for people and families in need. They have sheltered over 900,000 people in more than 300,000 communities worldwide. Habitat for Humanity has already begun rebuilding in the Gulf Coast, and is committed to helping rebuild lives and homes throughout New Orleans. -
