HASHTHRASH v3.0ParticipantHere’s the email I recieved from Madison House Inc, Dinosaur jr’s management.
Hi Dan,
Â
I work for Brian and Bart in the Dinosaur Jr. camp. We apologize for the delayed response to your inquiry about video taping the Dino shows this summer. Although we appreciate your interest and support of the band, a video crew has already been arranged for the entire tour. Our policy on audience members recording shows is limited to ambient audio taping (no board mixes). If you would like to speak further on the issue please feel free to give me a call in the office. Again we appreciate your support of this great band and hope at the very least you have a great time at the shows. All the best,
Â
Mendel RabinovitchSo that’s a bummer. I am still considering going in with the camera anyway, but maybe it’s just not worth the hassle. Anyone know anything about the Philly, NY or Boston venues? How’s securtiy?
I know J and Lou don’t mind videotaping and trading, I’ve asked them myself already in April. Murph would probably be stoked. But "management" wants to do a Dinosaur Jr DVD, which is cool and all, but I’d like some complete shows.
Anyway, that’s the word, thought I’d pass it along. I hope every show gets recorded onto audio at least and posted on freesofree.

FlyingCloudParticipantthanks a lot for the info!
-good thing is, there will probably be a DVD with the best footage of the tour
-sad thing is, there probably won’t be entire show recordings in video formatJuly 3, 2005 at 6:46 am #110609

FlyingCloudParticipantI don’t want to disencourage anyone, but down from the gallery of the Forum in London on June 9 I’ve seen the following scene:
the openers Modey Lemon were playing and a guy in front of the stage started to record with his video camera. not after a minute someone came out from backstage, asking what he was doing. the reply must have been ok, because the guy continued recording. later I saw him on stage with Modey Lemon, obviously being a part of their crew.
and of course (at least as far as I saw) he didn’t continue recording during the Dino set.July 3, 2005 at 10:41 am #110611

J said to me in LA that it was fine to videotape. When I mentioned that to Bart Dahl, one of the managers, he told me that J was not in charge of that. I don’t want to piss anyone off, well him off, with his actual, and more blunt, responce to the taping issue, but I understood. Madison House Inc and Merge are running these shows. J and Lou were both fine for taping. I asked them myself. Even Bart told me in person that video taping would be fine on the summer shows, just not the Spaceland show. I know his saying it is not a garauntee, but off that information I booked a vacation where 3 Dino shows were sandwhiched between 4 days of shooting and researching part of a documentary, and a small festival in Boston where me and a buddy are doing some of the filming for a bunch of bands. I thought it was great that the Dino were right on my path to Boston, from Philly to NY and then NY to Boston. I plan on having 2 cameras, and now have no idea what to do. I spent hundreds of dollars on tickets, and have no place to leave my cameras. I’m kinda stuck. It’s shitty and inconvenient for me, I wish they would have replied to my emails before I actually went and bought all these tickets.
Oh well, I’ll figure something out. And yeah, sneaking them in may not be very hard.

BornAgainTaperParticipantOK, just got told by the 9:30 club in DC there is no recording of any kind for the Dino show. What’s this BS all about??? The first post here clearly says audio recording is fine.

jeremiahKeymasterI don’t like it either. Don’t get me wrong, I am VERY VERY happy that they are making a professionally shot DVD but at the same time, I would like to see more than what they will be able to include in one DVD. So many magical moments that happen during the course of an event like this can’t possibly be captured in one edited release. I will of course be buying said release even if I had a copy that a fan captured first.
the fact that I won’t be able to attend any of these shows also fuels my wanting to see some of these complete shows toojust my random thought on the idea.
the site may have a bit of downtime in the next day or so – accept my apologies as I am doing a lot in the database.
anthony – gotta catch up soon – 12-16 hour work days have been kicking my ass but I am sneaking in some stuff.

kracked873Participantyeah i mean anyone who cares enough to want a copy of a full show, obviously is gonna buy the official dvd as well. i just feel a bit betrayed cause its ALLways been allowed at j’s shows.. lou’s shows as well. i was just really looking forward to making some kickass dvd’s cause this is like the most important tour ever.

AnnastefkaParticipantI think it is a smart move financially. I would love to buy an official DVD but I would put a new web-cam and new hard drive ( we just got a server system )
before that esp. If I was able to see "other" footage. If other footage was not available then I might break down and buy. Having a family puts everything down lower on the priority list. So I know there are others out there like me. I do have to say, there will be a loss at not having a variety of footage to look at. I love shooting the audience at these things, the crew, everything. Just J’s feet and pedals, his butt, his water bottles etc…..I doubt there will be much of that. -
