Thanks for the tip-off, I’ve ordered one now… :) I’m reluctant to pay for bootleg stuff but it’s probably worth it as I have so little Dinosaur Jr stuff to watch on video/DVD…

Do a search for "Dinosaur Jr" in DVDs section on ebay.co.uk – they had 4 with the "Buy It Now" option when I found it.

I’ve never heard of people reporting bootleggers til I came to this forum. Weird.

I am curious, how do you feel about that, about reporting bootleggers (who are profiting)?

It really doesn’t bother me. I mean, I know it doesn’t give any money to the band, who essentially created the product, but at least it makes stuff available to people who might not have normally seen it (espcially in the case of bands like Dinosaur).

I’m in a band, and it really wouldn’t bother me if people bought a DVD or something from someone and I saw no money from it. Maybe it’s different once you become more established, i dunno.

Yeah, In J’s case I think he has been very giving and really hasn’t made tons of cash, I am not sure why, but when we see others making money off of him, it sort of sucks. He has been very open about recording and such, that is why the folks here come down so hard on those who seek to make a buck for themselves off of J. It’s just not right, I thinks it is cool to have fans as "watch dogs" for that sort of thing.

Yea, I completely understand your reasoning. And I agree. Just seeing way dedicated people like you guys is new to me

hmmm. the way i see it is that I have bought every single cd/vinyl/7/12 that he has released, and asides from jayloumurph this is the first bootleg i have paid for. including the 20 or so times that I’ve seen him, I think I have perhaps paid quite enough "legal" money – I’m fairly sure he’s not going to begrudge me paying £7 for a dvd.

If he brings out a legit one, I’ll buy two – how’s that?

As far as I can tell that sounds like what is happening. When J was in Athens last April he even had folks video taping for him. with "the Fog". You may have read here also that the group he has managing him has asked that only audio be recorded, so I think they have a plan. I can tell you from my life at 40 and with my group of friends we are all starting to think about our "Nest Egg" that kind of thinking comes with age. I think with this tour and with the video, J (with the help of his managers ) is putting together his own "egg" so to speak. At least I hope so. Yes, in the 70’s and 80’s we paid money for bootlegged stuff, but the computer and file sharing etc. that has helped the spirit of bootlegging to become less of a finacial prospect and just more good fun.

Hey, Anthony, I see you have some new stuff up at Free so Free, we watched an few interviews with J, is (or was) that J’s apartment in NYC.
Lord, I hope marriage has brought a womens touch to his life because, if that was stuff was shot in 2000 (I think) that place didn’t have it then, and I can’t help but chuckle at the fact that is some pretty sparse living. Those curtains, that table, that is exactly how my husband would be living if it were not for me, of course that is not to say that it is a bad thing, only….
I showed it to my husband and said "Hey, this looks like your place when we first met" and he said "What more do you need?"
