I would like to start a discussion about song interpretations. What do you think the song "Start Choppin" is about. Is it about talking to someone that you secretly like? Im not sure…

I think its about a girlfriend who is dwelling on a fight and the song is about her getting over it and dealing with the problems

No earthly idea about "Start Choppin’"….but I have always wondered about the song "Feel the Pain." The opening (and often repeated line) "I feel the pain of everyone…but later I feel nothing" always reminded me of our Commander-In-Chief’s "I feel your pain" quote. Also, to me, seems like J’s pretty accurate in that context. It may have nothing at all to do with that…I can’t imagine J. leafing through "National Review" on a flight to Europe….but ya never know. I would have never thought of J as a golfing dood.

i read that J heard a friend say that line or something (I feel the pain of everyone) and then used it..

since J allways write the songs frist and the lyrics later..I guess that these tings can happen

J actually wrote that song while waiting in a Dentists office

Dentistry was the profession of his father. In fact, he is in Whatever’s Cool With Me. I imagine he spent a bit of time there.

SEVERED LIPS
~~~~~~~~~~~~
"you’re better than my PILLOW, because you don’t stain so easily"
"I never knew a rubber doll would be so hard to please"
what is this song about. is it a love song addressing a rubber doll?
"You gotta get through
My maze and pass every test
‘Cause I’m choosin’ one love
Tattooed across my chest "
and
"’Til I finally let go
Of the one thing
I ain’t never going to give back"
-seems to sayhe wants to save his virginity until he finds the right girl.
"I got the feeling When your hair hits the ceiling " – this sound like it’s about sex
"I won’t cry if you walk by
But if we both kind of stumble
Maybe I’ll say hi
That’s my best
I never try that much
‘Cause I’m scared of feeling
That appealing touch "
– I like this verse a lot I can relate to it
The references to the rubber doll and pillow and pictures makes me think the song is about masturbation and he is ready to move on from that and have a real relationship. I’m probably off but what do you guys think. As for the title I’m cluless
"I’ll be the girl you wanted" from Whatever’s Cool With Me. what the heck?
I think this is what J means when he says that his songs are pieces of other people’s conversations put together
his lyrics are kinda like plays but you don’t know when the other person starts to speak.
Good examples are Over YOur Shoulder and Same Day.
I just came up with a theory listening to Green Mind last night.
Maybe Blowing It and I live for that look are too different views of the same thing. Like one is the guy and the other is the girl. I thought of this because Blowing it is all "I don’t know a thing to say to you" (I used this signing yearbooks in high school) and I live for that look says "time to pay up for not having a single thing to say".
I know this is wrong but a theory is a theory.
Hey Bob, thanks for yr views! I really dug the Blowin/Look interpretation..and yeah, maybe the songs really are just lines from other people..like plays. I read from an interview w/J that like 80% of his lyrics tell about other people. Strange at first, but then again..there’s this nice zen-like ‘watcher’ mentality to it. Oh well, they’re just songs… But I know there’s lot of us out there who disagree
