Everyone seems to dig Love as Laughter. I guess they were having an off night when I saw them. First, J. never came and played drums and Mike Watt never came and played bass. They played a 45 minute acoustic set that got even worse half way through when one of them stopped playing guitar and started playing keyboard. They sort of reminded me of the Gin Blossoms only on some depressant drug. I guess I just don’t get their music. Oh, well… guess it’s just a newbie being stupid. I dug ’em. I saw them in Dallas at the Gypsy Tea Room. Took a tad bit of getting used to, but by the end it was very cool. The singer was arguing with some jerkasses in the audience….but his guitar sound was kinda fuzzy and cool. J didn’t play drums with the in dallas either….the curly headed dood played drums, Watt played bass and the singer…well, sang. And played guitar. And it was his birthday.

And then J. began to play and the world came to a complete stop. Really.

They played at the Orlando show and I thought they were awesome. During J’s encore, the singer Sam came out and sang for their cover of "I Wanna Be Your Dog". It was rad.

See, maybe the problem at the Richmond show is they did no cool covers and had no members of the "other" band come and join in… none of that cool stuff happened.
