OriginalPosterLostParticipantAmoeba Records on Haight Street is one of the koolest used and new record stores around and home to a lot of neat in-store shows. In the past I’ve seen Sonic Youth and Imperial Teen To see J was a super treat.
J took the stage at about 2 pm with his effect pedals in his hand. He was wearing an awesome fuzzy purple sweater with a zipper down he front. He got set up while all of us in the crowd got our video cameras, tape recorders and cameras ready for him to start.
He took the mic down that was there so that he could use his own one which had purple tape on it. Nifty. He had a bottle of water and a bowl of skittles and he was ready. I was excited because in most of his post Dinosaur acoustic shows he breaks in with some distortion here and there….this looked like it was not going to be an exception.
At about 2:10 J was ready to roll. He said his usual "Thank you…" and then he said "This is the first song of of the new album…" The setlist went as follows:
Same Day
Ammaring
Waistin’
The Wagon
Repulsion
Little Fury Things
Severed Lips
Get Me
ThumbHe busted into a realy neat solo in Ammaring and Severed lips which stretched the bounds of acoustic playing. The show was only like a half hour but was well worth my hour drive. After the set he plugged the Fog’s shows at Slim’s. He then proceded to sign autographs. My friend Tom took a picture of J signing this Japanese guys poster. I think the guy was actually there visiting from Japan. I even got J to do a promo voicer for our college radio station right before I showed him the tatoo I have of the hitchhiker from "Where You Been." He liked it.
Mike and George were no where to be seen at the in store. Mike was probably riding his bike around town or over the Golden Gate. HeHe. I did spot Lynn Perko from Imperial Teen and Sister Double Happiness at the show though. Last time Dinosaur came to town, Imperial Teen opened.
I managed to tape the in store which was like 30 minutes. If any one wants a copy, e-mail me at [email protected] and we can probably set something up. I’ll try to tape the next two nights. I hope to see you all there. Until tomorrow night, I will be listening to a bunch of Dinosaur Jr and waiting in anticipation.
