everyonelovesjaronParticipantI think usually it’s a cash grab since it’s the record companies that make the decision to put out the CDs and what to put on them.
I usually still buy them anyway since, 1) I collect the releases of whatever the band is, 2) the record companies often allow artists insight into what goes on them which saves us the decisions of what should go on our best-of mix tapes we make, and 3) some CD players just do NOT play CDRs.

maxiniParticipantOh, Ear Bleeding Country’s coming out on October 2 .. that’s my birthday!!
Looks like a pretty good track listing, I think I just really miss seeing Severed Lips on there. Cool though that J didn’t sell out by putting a previously unreleased tune on it just to sell more copies. Anyways, best news is of course that J’s doin ok.

AGAPParticipantHey Salamiguy,
Pee Wee Herman on the liner notes of the X Rhino deal…will definitely have to pick that up… Liked X but Exenes voice drove me absolutely nuts after a couple of songs
Rhino is great, put out that great Stooges Funhouse deal as well as that Best of The Monkees…I think they did anyways…gotta love them for that!!!As to who makes the money off of these things, I agree the record companies make some cash but the balancing factor for me is more exposure for J. Once people hear those cool tunes no doubt they will be buying up all they can get their hands on… So its cool with me. Go out and buy that Buzzcocks compilation elj, you will love it…I hope. Picked up Spiral Scratch on disc by them today…cool

dfkgurlParticipantThat’s really great news. Thanks so much for posting that. Finally word on how J is progressing! Has to be hard recovering from something like that, glad to hear he is sounding positive. Also, looking forward to the compilation.

SGParticipantYeah Exene is`nt easy to listen to.I saw John Doe on tv not long ago on the show"Martial Law";he played a bad guy and got his ass kicked by the show`s star Sammo, martial arts expert.
I don`t have the X anthology but heard in a review that Pee Wee gave a testimonial on X.
All the X stuff is being reissued soon on Rhino, that should be cool,I want a copy of Los Angeles!
The Dino Jr best of I will buy anyway even though having all the tunes;the whole package should be great.Plus it should get more people into J,we`ll problably get some more members here!
I bought the MC5 best of last year that Rhino put out;It has some early singles and a live song from a french tv show plus the best tracks from the 3 albums.
I hope someday Rhino will put out a Husker Du best of.
I have a Buzzcocks best of;operation manual which is really good.August 20, 2001 at 12:46 pm #54748
AGAPParticipantHey Salamiguy,
I have a compilation out of LA that has Los Angeles on it…very cool song. Glad you liked the MC5 and Buzzcocks…very different but both cool in their own way. That Husker Du thing, they now own their sst catalogue so something should be coming out if they can figure out the cash deal I’d buy it in a flash.
Sad but I am really excited about this best of deal, definitelly conversion material but hey I need it as well

greaseheadParticipantI think it’s particuliarly good for new fans, but in all honestly, I doubt it if I will buy it. I own every other album, so I’ve already got every song that’s going to be on it.
Sounds like J has been busy despite his injuries, if he’s already got 7 new songs written, can’t wait to hear ’em.

I’ll definitely buy the album, if only to keep my collection as complete as possible, and it would have been nice to get at least one new song.
But anyway, I love the title. Ear Bleeding Country. Yay!

Bucky RamoneParticipantgood to read that J is doing well health-wise.
Definitely going to buy the cd (and give it away to a good friend as the perfect introduction to Dinosaur Jr. !). Probably buy one for myself as well…. Rhino is doing a great job with their compilations and reissues. They recently reissued Dream Syndicate’s great ‘Days of wine and roses’ with 8 bonus-tracks and a booklet with very extensive liner-notes (perfect timing, because the holes were starting to show in my vinyl copy of it… )August 20, 2001 at 8:57 pm #54752

Well, I kinda agree that it would’ve been cool to hear some new stuff, but I still think best of albums are for best of tunes from the past. Would love it though if some new tunes were put out in the format of an ep or whatever, like Whatever’s cool with me was. In any case, with the seven new tunes that was mentioned, we hopefully don’t have to wait for too long ’til the next J + Fog album appears, and I got a hunch it’ll be awesome! -
