SGParticipantYeah,have fun Javro;have you heard Steve West`s new band-Marble Valley?I heard one song,kinda cool.
I was reading an interview with Malkmus a few months ago and he said he saw J and the Fog in Portland,Oregon, said that the crowd wanted to hear old dino songs more then More Light`s songs,he hopes that won`t be the case when he performs old Pavement songs with the Jicks.
Good luck with the suit!October 3, 2001 at 3:44 pm #65796
K7 Rides AgainParticipantwill either of you two pass on a little more background info as to who all the people you’re talking about are? I love Pavement’s sound any any other stuff related to them is always interesting for me and I’d like to check it out.
Thanx, kurtisOctober 3, 2001 at 4:02 pm #65797
AGAPParticipantHey Javro,
Have a great time, looking forward to your spiel on the show.
Nothing wrong with a guy in a suit… Watch out for people with smokes though, last show I was at someone burnt a hole in an expensive jacket…

SGParticipantYeah, sorry;when you get some indie or punk folks talking it`s hard for others not in the know to understand what the hell they`re talking about.
Kurticus7,my advice to you is check out allmusic.com and type in some bands you`ve heard about in the search box and that will give you some info on them and the albums they`ve done.I don`t mind giving out info here it`s just I`ll problably forget some info that allmusic would talk about.
Here`s some Pavement info from me:
formed in 89 in Stockton,Cali.
originally a trio,Steve Malkmus on vocals, gtr,Spiral Stairs(Scott Kannberg) on gtr and Gary Young on drums
recorded some singles and eps in 89/90 and a full length in 91-Slanted And Enchanted.
in 94 released Crooked Rain Crooked Rain -add new members-drummer Young left, replaced by Steve West,percussionist/singer Bob Nastdonovich and bassist Mark Ibold(also plays in Free Kitten)
Those two albums are highly recommended by me,those are the main ones to get, other albums have good songs but is`nt as consistent as the first two albums, these include:
Westing-compilation of early singles-89-91
Wowee Zowee-95
Brighten The Corners-97
Terror Twilight-99There`s also some eps and cd singles around too.
Check out Launch.com for some Pavement videos.October 4, 2001 at 2:30 am #44708

Bucky RamoneParticipantPreston School of Industry’s album is great, I like it a lot better than the Stephen Malkmus album!
By the way, Preston School of Industry is playing in Amsterdam tonight, and I am not there: work, bloody work

Bucky RamoneParticipantHey Allison, you’re lucky, I wasn’t, and I haven’t heard from anybody how the Amsterdam show has been….
By the way, I remember a certain Javro promising us a full report of his adventures in his three-piece Armani-suit at the PSoI gig, haven’t seen or heard anything…..

JavroModeratorer yeah….
bit of explaining to do I guess. I was having a secret rendezvous with an ex-girlfriend of mine from about 10 years ago whilst I was still at school. At the time, we liked exactly the same music, and I used to send her endless tapes.
Having not seen her for an awful long time, I decided I would surprise her with tickets to PSOI. When we met, she looked very different, and proclaimed that the last album she bought was by N-Sync.
No prizes for guessing what her reaction was when I produced the tickets…. Tried to fob her off by saying that Westlife were supporting, but no joy. Felt very sheepish – hence no postings. Sorry gang – let you all down..
On the positive side, should be seeing her again soon (having recently been informed that my longtime partner is not ready to settle down – information that would have been more useful three years ago) and will post a full review the next time n-sync are in town…
Big Love

humble joeParticipantBad luck Javro.
Yeah I’m wondering how good Preston School of Industry actually are. I mean Spiral Stairs’ Pavement songs were pretty cacky I thought. Like ‘Western Homes’? What was that? Even better ones were clearly out of the mighty-Malk’s league.
Right well that’s probably my most controversial statement since saying Husker Du were crap!
October 15, 2001 at 4:01 pm #65805
SGParticipantI think Western Homes was a Bob Nastdonavich song;I `m not even sure if Spiral Stairs wrote or sang a thing in Pavement, the non Malkmus songs I always thought were Nastdonavich`s,am I right?

AGAPParticipantHey Javro,
That whole deal had to suck in a huge way, although now you have a chance to try some of the Dino/J conversion techniques on your new/old friend. I will try and post a set list etc after the show in a couple of weeks. I am so looking forward to it, next couple of weeks for me are insane!!!!
As to the who is better deal, I don’t really look at things like that. From what I have heard there are some interesting sounds coming from both, so its all cool with me.

Allison </STRONG><HR></BLOCKQUOTE> That sums up my thoughts in a nice way Spiral both wrote and sang his own stuff on the Pavement albums. The only album he didn’t have any songs on is Terror Twilight, ‘cuz Malkmus didn’t think they were good enough. All This Sounds Gas consists mostly of songs that he wrote for Terror Twilight.

SGParticipantFor some reason I thought Nastdonavich sang the non Malkmus songs,it was`nt made clear in the albums or interviews.
Thanks for the info Robert! -
