King TubbyParticipantI’m heading out to Northampton in a couple hours — I used to live there, and it’s nice to have a Dino gig as an excuse to go back and see some folks. A full report on the show will follow.
If anyone is going to the show tonight from out of town, I highly recommend the East Side Grill for dinner, which is on the same block as Pearl Street. It’s a Cajun/Creole style restaurant with lots of great seafood dishes and a fine raw bar.
Can’t wait to hear to hear "Tarpit," though it’ll have to be a mighty, mighty fine rendition to top the one J played with the Fog in Baltimore last fall.

King TubbyParticipantGoddamn, was that an amazing show! I’ve never seen J flailing away at his guitar and jumping around like he did/was during "Mountain Man." It was insane. The sound was excellent, with about a 100 different textures coming out of J’s stacks throughout the night. He blew two of three heads about a third of the way into the set, but the crew took care of everything really quickly. No "Tarpit," though. Hopefully they’ll play it in NYC and/or Boston. A totally inspiring experience all around, though I’m half dead today after all the beer and Jaagermeister and smoke. Those guys rule, plain and simple.

King TubbyParticipantOh yeah, and it occurred to me during the show that J’s guitar outro to "The Lung" sounds — in a couple places — remarkably like the opening riff to GBH’s "City Baby’s Revenge." I know J’s a GBH fan, and the other guys probably are, too. It would be totally sick if they would segue from "The Lung" into a version of "City Baby." Lou could sing it.

NCDanParticipantA GBH reference! I used to party with them everytime they hit NYC! Now I have to fish that album out.

They’re still as fun and shambolic as ever — before opening with "Race Against Time" they passed a bowl around the stage to get properly geared up, and Colin still climbs all over the PA speakers and jumps off from heights dangerous for a drunk 42 year-old. Classic band.
