In total guitar they interviewed J when the rereleases came out he said he had some new songs he was workin’ on but he didn’t know if it was gonna be the fog or just solo or what. I wonder if these are the songs he’s teaching murph for the new album.

See thats what I ment about live rythem section. J is teaching Murph the drum parts like the old days. He might as well record them himself. Sounds like a Fog album with Lou and Murph to me but will see.

I’ve never been quite sure how seriously to take that stuff about J "teaching" Murph his drum parts. J and Murph have TOTALLY different styles — J’s loose and busy and swings, while Murph is spare, rock solid, and plays extremely tight fills. Either "teaching" is too strong a term, or Murph is one horrible learner, as the difference between, say, the drumming on The Wagon, Water, and Thumb and the rest of Green Mind show plainly.

I think I read somewhere that when J writes a song it usually starts with drums – that would lead me to believe he already had some songs to start the record with. ::)

I’m putting 10 imaginary dollars on the album being called "The Fisherman and the Mud Bog." Who wants in on this action? :D

It said in an interview somewhere that they used to set up two drum sets and J would teach him what to play. And he also overdubbed cymbals and toms on most of the early albums, and played the majority of drums on the later albums. Murphy just isn’t as funky.

I thought the problem was that Murph was too funky.

man, im so bowled over that dinosaur jr is recording a new album wiht the original line-up. Im really curious to see if there will be any collaborations between J and Lou on the new record. It’d be great to see some songs with imput from the both of them (and murph of course) or just some lou and j songs filtered thru dino’s unique sound.

I’d posit that any new Lou song would have to be radically different than pretty much all of his stuff of the last 3-4 years in order for it to not sound out of place on a Dinosaur record. It’s not like he can do "The Ballad of Day Kitty" with a screaming guitar solo in the middle … "where’d the kitty come from … where’d the kitty go to … <KRRRAAANNNNGGGGG>" :D

And I for one think this’ll be freaking great.

Righto fellow fans, I have the word from the man himself – I did a telephone interview with J this afternoon (New Zealand time).

Hi Captain, as a fellow NZer when and where do we get to hear/read the interview?

Hey everyone, been a long time since I posted on here. Great news about the new album, It’ll be great to here the new stuff. I guess it may be somewhere between old and new dino given how J and Lou’s own material has sounded in recent times?
