As most of you may already know, all the songs from More Light are now on Napster. And though I myself will not get them (I go by the – romantic, yes – notion of actually waiting for the album to come out), I understand that a lot of fans will want to hear the songs as soon as possible.

Now there’s no particular reason why you should listen to me, I’m just a fan, but I’d like to ask those of you who read this and have got the songs from Napster, to make sure to buy the album when it comes out, to support J.

    Thanks,

    Jasper

Are you sure that ALL the songs from the album are on Napster? I know that some of the names differ (e.g. the ‘My Life’ MP3 is actually called ‘The Same Day’ and the ‘Come On’ MP3 is actually called ‘Ammaring’) but what about ‘Ground Me To You’, ‘All The Girls’, and ‘More Light’ ? Are they tracks we haven’t heard, or just changed names?

I will also be buying the album as soon as it goes on sale.

I’m sure they are probably all up there. They were all encoded from people that figured out how to download the realaudio files I had up on my old server so the quality is not very high but you can get a feel of the tunes.

I caught a little heat from this since the people that were doing it also were posting how to burn cd’s from this on the message boards. It probably would not have been so bad if the people that did this would have just kept quite and enjoyed them. Being a huge fan myself I can understand and appreciate why they wanted copies (even if the quality was poor) because I would probably have done the same thing. I have no doubts that the people that are downloading these tracks from Napster or anywhere else will be purchasing this album when it is release. The recent record breaking album sales in the wake of all the Napster/Mp3 controversy will back this up.

It is a great album (to put it lightly) and I, of course, will be buying this as well. Can’t wait to see J playing live again (with Mike Watt, how cool will that be!).

I admit it, I downloaded from Napster, I missed the songs when they were on this site and just couldn’t contain myself from getting them from wherever I could. I will, of course, buy the product when released. I am dying to have a "real copy". There are actually three shows within my reach this time (which is quite amazing and exciting!). This just might require the use of some vacation time from work……………..

It’s possible that some of the new tunes may be on Napster only when certain users are online. I don’t know. I have downloaded tons of music from Napster, but sort of quit it a few months ago. The coolest thing I downloaded (besides J with the funky homosapien from the Judement Night soundtrack) was Dave Grohl doing Everlong acoustically on Howard Stern. I would have downloaded J’s tunes and would also then have bought the CD’s. I haven’t always done so (i.e. I downloaded the new Steely Dan album in total but never bought the CD) but I feel strongly that J’s integrity (not to mention the legalities) merits him every damn penny he can earn. Does anyone know what J’s opinions on Napster and the whole MP3 thing are? I think it rocks and I also think Metallica are a bunch of sell-out pussies, especially Little Lars.

the whole album is there, not just the demo/mono/fuzzy things. the clue is the 192 bit rate which means they can be burned to audio cd (which is not rocket science, nero does it on the fly). the other versions are 128

I listen to the album in the car a lot, and I shall certainly be buying the legal version when it is releasded even though in Uk it will cost something like $30.

I support the artist, im just a little impatient:-)

Why would it cost $30 in the UK?

Actually, £15 is about $23. But okay, that’s still a lot of money for one cd.

Here in The Netherlands it costs about $19 (or if your lucky $15). No reason for me not to buy it (ok, I got it for my birthday, but I’d buy it if my birthday was somewhere in June!). I downloaded some songs from Napster, those were the demosongs. The quality was, of course, not as good as the cd. (So now I have two cd’s: the demo and the real one)

I always buy the Dino/J Mascis cd’s, but some albums are very rare. When I saw the Live-album JayLouMurph on Napster, I started downloading it immediately (96 kbps, low quality). It’s a choice I made: the album can’t be bought anywhere and now I have the album, althought it isn’t an official one and with a poor quality.
