OriginalPosterLostParticipantIndeed interesting. Perfect albums? Well, I’ll do my best.
*Bardo Pond: Amanita (1995)
*Nick Drake: Pink Moon (1972)
*The Donnas: s/t (1997)
[*Neil Young: Ragged Glory (1991)]Amanita- perfect drone rock, totally amazing piece of music. Pink Moon is above all words for me and The Donnas s/t album is the most perfect punkpop 7" extended into an album. Dinosaur/Mascis hasn’t made a perfect album yet although More Light is getting closer each time I listen to it. Ragged Glory would be perfect if it wasn’t for the awful ‘Farmer John’ cover

OriginalPosterLostParticipantBack on the subject of More Light; it is one of the few albums I have heard recently that has stopped me dead in my tracks. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much. I don’t know why, but I just had this image of it being J past his best and trying to do something totally different from the Dinosaur stuff. It’s not remarkably different, but does show a move in a slightly different direction.
I thought that the songs themselves are a lot clearer and sound brighter than his previous stuff. Well, with the obvious exception of the closing track (and, by the way, how much of an influence do you think Kevin Shields had on that one?).
Well, this discussion is all well and good, but it’s all so much cock compared to listening to the album itself, so that’s what I’m going to go and do now. I’ll just say that, in reference to some of the previous posts, a lot of my favourite albums contain one or two songs I don’t really like. And I would never personally give an album a mark out of ten or five or whatever. Music, for me, is something that I can’t quantify to that level and it hurts my head to try.
I hope this doesn’t make me sound too much like an arsehole (that’s English for asshole, by the way).
See you later.

OriginalPosterLostParticipantMore Light kikks ass – not the best thing J has done – but it is my feel good album of this yeary to listen to it, a while I like music to make me feel a range of emotions, I think there is no harm in having a record of such a feelgood nature – I love it.
Oh yeah, and Watery Domestic kikks ass too – possibly my favourite Pavement release, especially Texas Never Whispers
I’m gettin’ all caught up
in a test test, and it all
basically tastes like
crap -
