RSTguitarsParticipantDoes anybody ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY know the correct lyrics to Tarpit? If so, could you help me out. All of the lyrics I’ve found online are grossly wrong. I’m pretty sure I’ve got 99% of it, but there’s still a couple of phrases that I’m unsure of, and I’m just fudging through it when I play it live.
Thanks!

RSTguitarsParticipantHahaha… you stopped right at the line I need!
Anybody know the line after "Pull me out of space"??? Everything online says it’s "Trip me sprinkling grey", but I really don’t think that’s it.
I’ll have to check out the BTS cover… thanks for the suggestion.

RSTguitarsParticipantAnd one more, too…
"Wait for me there, –something something something–.
Your righteousness won’t be outdone."Any idea? Take your best guess!

rage:manParticipantwhhhhaaaatt? i swear to god it sounds like he’s saying "paint my face"…

Listen to TarpitParticipantAhhhh….Tarpit. Lovely.
At the end of the song, he’s saying "Paved my fate…." I’ve always heard it as "Tread me…." rather than "Trip me…." Who knows?
It’s pretty much a Dinosaur classic. That’s all that matters.
Oh yeah….for anyone who saw them last / this year, do they still do the "loud, all effects chaos" at the end with a cutoff? I haven’t been able to see them….yet and I was wondering. God, that’d be great.

Listen to TarpitParticipantI’d still like to see the actual lyrics for "No Bones" and "They Always Come" pop up eventually. There are words that J mumbles in those songs that you guess around with everytime you listen to them.

RSTguitarsParticipant"Listen to Tarpit " wrote:At the end of the song, he’s saying "Paved my fate…."I always thought it was "Paved my faith", and I was re-assured of that when I saw that the song is titled "Faith" instead of "Tarpit" on the JayLouMurph cover.
"Listen to Tarpit " wrote:I’ve always heard it as "Tread me…." rather than "Trip me…." Who knows?Yeah… I had it as "Tread me" too, which is why I was surprised to see "Trip me" on the ‘Net lyrics.
Here’s what I had figured out for lyrics…
Hey what’s bubbling down under there
Why’s it screaming what’s unfair
Please excuse it, forget and hide
Let the shell just swell inside
Hatch it out now, watch it squirm
It’s asking me what’s that I’ve learnedStay inside, pull me out of space
Tread me, (unknown) grace
Stay and pave my faithThought I knew you, stuck out my hand
A bit which I could understand
It’s a twisted feeling, staring, bored
Now it’s time to burn, I hope I score
Wait for me there, (unknown)
Your righteousness won’t be outdoneStay inside, pull me out of space
Tread me sprinkling grace
Stay and pave my faithFebruary 9, 2006 at 10:43 pm #114751
malkmusParticipantTread me, sprinkling ..grace?
Who knows what that means though, thats just what I hear. Also,
Wait for me there, dash and runFebruary 10, 2006 at 5:59 am #114752

rage:manParticipanti cannot BELIEVE that he doesn’t say "paint my face…" it sounds exactly like he’s saying that. and one of the reasons why i liked the song so much!
eehhh! i’m right!

King TubbyParticipant"my name is lisa " wrote:"thought i knew you stuck out my hand you bit wish i could understand"
also, I think it’s face not faithRight on both counts, I’d say. It’s definitely "You bit, wish I could understand," anyway. And it sure sounds like "face," on the original and even more so on the many boot recordings I’ve heard.

lethrneck4Participanti always thought "forget and hide" was "for getting high"
the "hey whats bubblin down under there" line i thought was related to smokin pot, so for getting high always seemed to make sense to me

Listen to TarpitParticipantI’ve always seen it this way….and still do.
"Please excuse it….forget and hide. Let the shellfish swell inside…."
"Stay inside, pull me out of space….tread me….sprinklin’ gray…."
"Thought I knew you, stuck out my hand, you bit….wish I could understand." (Although "THE bit WHICH I could understand" could easily work too).
"It’s a twisted feelin’, staring bored….now it’s time to burn, I hope I score. (Again….something like, "now it’s time to burn the whole by storm" seems to work too).
"Wait for me there….dash and run (this doesn’t really make sense considering dashing practically IS running….right? I started thinkin’ it could be "cash it and run" as in "finish it off and then break for it." Still, your rightgeousness won’t be out-done."
And then…."Paved my fate…." I’m almost positive that’s what he’s saying. Paint my face makes no sense (but then what part of Tarpit does) and it just seems kind of silly. I also heard that it was "pave(d) my faith, given the fact that the song IS called "Faith" on JayLouMurph.
I think the best way to know would be to ask them in person. lol That OR get a hold of the Doug Martsch cover version and see what he’s saying.
The song fucking rules….that’s all that I’m concerned about. That and managing to play it with people who can actually re-create the insanity of effects over the verse riff at the end.
It was the first song I learned on the drums from Dinosaur.
