review of the show @ oxford zodiac may 2005:

Holding Back The Year, the debut single from Lou Barlow’s new Domino-released album Emoh, is met with almost complete silence – every single punter is totally captivated by the much-loved voice of America’s indie-rock elder statesman. This isn’t a nostalgia trip for the former Sebadoh frontman and Dinosaur Jr bassist – Barlow’s doleful and emotive song writing is his most acclaimed work to date.

With such a strong demonstration of his talent, it’s easy to see why the nu-folk underground have found inspiration in his sound – Rivers Cuomo, Flaming Lips, a young Beck, Eels’ frontman E and the late Elliot Smith amongst many, many others have all clearly been under the influence.

The bard of lo-fi is a hero to all singer/songwriters with their hearts on their sleeve, but actually appears to be strangely nervous about the reception he’ll receive. He is, of course, received graciously and later seems genuinely enamoured by the warmth of the crowd. In fact, I’m sure I saw a small tear welling in his eye amid the on-going patter of good-natured banter.

"Do y’wanna drink, Lou?" asks one particularly lively fan. "Err, can I have a…whisky please?" Lou replies. "Y’know, I self-released 5000 copies of my last record to records stores – and 3000 copies were returned to sender!"
"Put ’em on Ebay" jokes someone. "I’ll have a copy now, how much?" says another.

However, when Lou got down to business, the jokers seemed conscious not to interrupt the mesmerising atmosphere – even the bar staff were ringing the tills as quietly as possible!

Following crowd pleasers The Freed Pig and Alone Or Together, the man is totally overjoyed and the crowd literally won’t let the troubadour leave the stage. However, the appearance of another scotch earns us all a couple of final spellbinders – truly magical!

Could anyone savvy in Astrology tell me if a Taurus (me) and a Virgo together is a good romantic match?
I met a very nice woman that’s a Virgo and we’ve hit it off really well. Does anyone know firsthand if it is a good match, or anyone experienced with Astrology? Thank you so much!

Wow, didn’t expect to read a question like this on Freakscene…
Thanks Rambleon….I hope all is well.

A Taurus and a Virgo is a great match. There is an easy understanding between you. You are two peas in a pod. The longest and best marriages are between your sextile (two signs away) so for a Taurus that would be a…let me think….Pisces and then a Cancer. The next best thing for a long lasting easy going hook up is your same element…that would be all the other Earths (Virgo, Capricorn) and your opposite sign Scorpio.

However, even the best combo’s take work after so many years….the first four or five years….easy….throw into the mix children, work, financial responsibilities….then you have to just move into prayer because it’s a roller coaster ride. While I’m typing this my husband (a sextile of mine) just came in the door and told me to go buy everything you need for the kids for summer…..We are leaving on the big vacation in two weeks…We need new Swim suits and Teva’s and underwear and more shorts, some shirts….I’m so happy….just yesterday he was grumping at me to "not spend money" (my love meter is now back to full tilt.) That sounds so shallow but the kids need new everything for Summer.
Thank you God (I shout out loud) only to my have husband say "you’re welcome Love"
