dfkgurlParticipantI’ve been thinking hard about getting a laptop lately and since a lot of you guys seem to know a lot about computers, could you give me tips on how to choose a laptop? I would like to use it for the web and music as well as for work (ExcelWord stuff mostly). Anyone particularily happy with one they have or got any tips on what to look for?

one all so far my man. And to be honest, that’s already a moral victory for us! We lost the tennis (Henman to Ivanisevic), the rugby and the cricket in one weekend.
Re-establishing us as the greatest sporting nation in the world! With the exception of the Asian, American, European and African nations, of course.
Nothing to do with laptops, but topical all the same – I have been reading some pretty interesting things about George W’s grandfather Prescott. Did he really finance the third reich!!! Jesus!!! We don’t even lead the world in politcal scandals any more. In fact, we need a new sport that we can rule in for a while.
Anyone for scuba football….

Later trav</STRONG><HR></BLOCKQUOTE>I concur with AP, desktops are MUCH better. I’d suggest buying a good desktop for your video and audio and a cheapo laptop for word/excel on the road.
I’ve got Win 98 and office 2000 installed and running fine on a P133 laptop I paid $150 on ebay. Consider that.

dfkgurlParticipantThanks, guys. I do have a desktop (at home and work), however it is difficult to pry my son off the one at home at night. Thinking of a laptop so I could get online more in the evening (i.e. other than when my son is in the shower).

AGAPParticipantHey,
Talk about good timing DFK, I am scouting out a laptop as well. Think I will take the advice of just getting the basic laptop for road work etc. My huge concern is durability…ie I am a huge clutz, everything hits the floor eventually. Why can’t these things be encased in some sort of super ball material…bounce right back up to you with zippo damage. God my discman landed in a tray of paint…think I will check out ebay for one of those cheapo jobs ELJ mentioned…to start with anyways.
