telerienParticipantwell, it certainly was taped. there were lots of cameras. the weirdest thing though… before the band started, this guy came out dressed in a weird monster costume and was, i suppose, trying to get everyone excited (not very nessesary). anyone got a scoop on that? i haven’t read the forums in a bit so please excuse me if this has been addressed already. but needless to say when the monster came back out during the encore and went into the pit… well, let’s just say that the costume is no longer with us.
anyway, the set was amazing. opened with ‘tarpit’ and i was very happy to hear ‘the wagon’ in there with lou grinning ear to ear and the crowd went nuts. very cool.
anyone else think the songs sounded a bit slowed down from previous live shows? maybe it was just me, but i think they may have slowed it down a bit so as to make less mistakes for the filming and all.
over all i had a better time than at summerstage and that was hard to beat!December 3, 2005 at 9:37 am #113291
King TubbyParticipantShit, man, they sounded amazing. Really tight and focused, and Lou was playing his ass off. Vocals were a little low early on, but that’s only because the guitar was so massive. This dvd is going to be sweet! The Irving Plaza staff was unusually low-key, too, only making people put out their joints rather than tossing them for smoking. Much appreciated. Can’t wait for tonight — a friend who went last night, and who rarely rouses herself to go to shows, was so galvanized by it that she’s foaming at the mouth to see them again tonight. A great, loud rock show will do that to a person. Like Lemmy says, it’s the new religion, the electric church, the only way to go….
Setlist was (not in order, except for the opener):
Tarpit
Gargoyle
Repulsion
Forget the Swan
Bulbs of Passion
Little Fury Things
Lung
Sludge
In A Jar
Raisans
Freak Scene
No Bones
Budge
Just Like Heaven
The WagonI think that’s it. On paper, it doesn’t look too impressive, as we’ve all heard these a million times before, but they’re kicking the living shit out of every tune. And the guitar solos….jesus christ!!!! Beautiful stuff. So glad they’re still playing together.

circus kingParticipantI went to both shows–first night VIP courtesy of Anthony the moderator and Dino God. Friday was the better show but they were both so awesome. Met J and Lou afterwards. J’s still weird, Lou’s still really nice!
In all seriousness I think the Dinosaur I witnessed this past weekend was the best Dinosaur I’ve ever seen. Totally into it and psyched as if they were new songs they were playing. Great chemistry btwn the band. MURPH!!!! He was always amazing but I think he’s at his best NOW! Believe it.

Agreed about Murph. A genuine character, and a monstrous drummer. I love the way he kept getting up between songs and yucking it up with the crew behind the stacks. The whole band seems to have stepped up their personal chemistry and musical interaction dramatically since the summer — did they practice for that, or has it just happened?
I think Friday’s might’ve been better too, but Saturday’s was the more ferocious.
