great to see there’s a bunch of fans here on the site who go to the shows & report back
    have lots of fun!!!!

thanks a lot for the San Francisco/Slims review, stanner :D

Would be interesting to hear if the marshall deal works out, but of course it’s great to hear that the volume is ear splitting as usual at this tour  …those who plan to go to a show, we’re not joking here, take those earplugs with you, just in case!

Carl, I am just getting ready for bed and J and you and all are right in the middle of the show. Wait a minute, thats not true, Pacific time, oh, yeah, I forgot, I hope the evening is wonderful for all of y’all. We can’t wait to hear your reflections.

    That was a fantastic show!

First off, I got there about 15 minutes before the band took stage. I walk in and there’s J setting up his rig, maybe 30 people are mulling about. He walks off into the crowd and nearly bumps into me. 10 minutes later he nearly bumps into me again. I wanted to say something, shake his hand, but he looked so preoccupied.

They take stage, I have my plugs in hand, he fiddles around a bit and then breaks into Get Me. Then my fav Dino tune, The Lung. In fact nearly half the set was golden oldies – Sludgefeast, Kracked, Freak Scene, Little Fury Things. I remember Free so Free, Freedom, The Wagon, Same Day, Alone, What Else is New, Ammaring. Maybe a few more, three Captain and Cokes later my memory went to fuzz.

    Some observations

    1) The volume wasn’t painfully loud. I left the plugs in my pocket. My ears aren’t ringing. He even turned down his amp a little during the 3rd or 4th song.

    2) The performance was almost perfect. I mean like album perfect, his voice was on pitch, his rhythm playing impeccible, his guitar solos were note for note maybe 90% (he did go off on Alone), very few flubs. This was a surprise. From the clips I’ve heard on this forum, the Reverb show, and that show I went to a decade ago this performance was a stark contrast. Has J recently kicked a substance abuse problem?

    3) Is his hair graying or did he try to dye it white?

I took some junky photos with my camera phone, if there a place to host here?

thanks a lot for the songlist and your take on things
good to hear you haad a good time! other shows of this tour have said to be much louder, with ear ringing effects. But a show without earplugs is also enjoyable, as the sound is clearer then. (on the other hand, maximum volume has got its own quality )
Pics?! yeah, of course! our album is waiting for them :D

J’s hair is grey, because he isn’t dyeing, I’d say…

i agree … i think j’s live performance is getting better + better … mike watt actually mentioned that somewhere in his 2000/2001 tour diaries, i’ll have to see if i can dig up that quote …

also, it might have something to do w/the fact that j meditates … meditation = a quiet mind, free from unwanted distractions = better concentration + improved creativity

My friend just told me he went to the San Diego show and it rocked. He played the usual songs and a nice 20 minute version of Alone.
