Hey,

I have a Rhino Records compilation…The Monkees Greatest Hits. Couple punk bands way back in time covered I’m A Believer and Let’s Dance On…just like the Monkees did them…very cool.

Please, don’t throw things at me. They were my favorite band when I was 6.

ELJ, you are not alone. I have a Monkees paperback I had since I was a kid. I had Mickey Dolenz sign it a few years ago and I also have a photo of him signin’ it. The photo is on the wall next to my Tiny Tim and Alex Chilton autographs.

Allsion, are the punk rock covers on the compilation?

I have that compilation. It’s the band itself. Not covers.

I touched Mickie Dolenz hand and stole Davy’s setlist. Woohoo!!!

No, the "shitty Beatles" were the Rolling Stones. The Stones aren’t fit to open for a "real" band like the Monkee’s.

Just kidding everyone.

My dad saw Hendrix open for the Monkeys

Now that would have been a trip.

If bob ever comes back around, maybe we could convince him to post his cover of Daydream Believer. He did it right after I put up the More Light demos and was inspired by J’s cover of Leaving on a Jet Plane. I thought it was pretty good

Hendrix opened for the Monkees? Oh dear lord… that’s a travesty.

I’d like to hear someone’s cover of Daydream Believer. Perhaps that can be the Chipmunks next project.

Hendrix opened for the Monkees around 1967
or 1968.
Did you know that Charles Manson auditioned
to be in the Monkees? So did Steven Stills.

Hey DFK,

Sorry there should have been a "local"before the bands thing. Tons of punk bands around here covered The Monkees and Cheap Trick…pretty fun times.

The Monkees WERE the biggest selling band in 1968, I believe.

Manson was also pretty cozy with the Beach Boys, as I’m sure most if not all of you knew. Steven Stills I was unaware about. He’s damn good.

Jeremiah, where did your dad see them? A dear friend of mine from work saw the same tour in Jacksonville. He said they were booing Hendrix off the stage. Pretty nuts.

The Monkees booing Hendrix!?! He should have played a scolding electric version of Last Train To Clarksville right then and there to teach them what’s what.

the monkees REALLY got me into music…. i just recently went through my monkees collection (missing two lp´s) i bought them at tower records nyc in the mid 80´s when i got my monthly 10 $ (one album for 7$). still a great band….i mean kicking out their producer and then starting to do their own thing and that in the mid 60´s is pretty punk or not ?.
they played with hendrix in august 67 i think. the monkees were REALLY into hendrix, but most of them monkees-fans-parents thought he was way to rude and so he dropped out….but they partied together (dolenz and tork were friends with the experience).
headquarters and piesce, capricorn…. and those trio records are pretty damn good….i´m not too much of a davy jones fan (i loved him in my teens), but you and i is an amazing song with good lyrics, cool drums and great lead guitar.
