RobertParticipantApparently Lollapalooza 04 didn’t sell enough tickets, so all dates are cancelled.

rambleonParticipantno way
… i am really in shock … the lineup was so good … is the US economy really that bad ? anyone know what happened to prevent people from buying tix ?
June 22, 2004 at 10:34 am #103185
RobertParticipantAgree, the lineup looks real good to me, and I’m kind of dumbfound as to why they didn’t sell enough tickets.

SGParticipantEveryone`s buying tickets to see Nickelback and the Dave Matthews Band instead

RobertParticipantThe scary thing is that you might be totally right about that SG. Urgh! What an ugly thought!

rambleonParticipanti just can’t believe that explanation … well, i know for sure if you had the same lineup in europe it would sell out in 2 secs … bummer !! tell them to come over here … man, man oh man ! this is just so weird … what’s happening to the music world ??
June 22, 2004 at 2:34 pm #103190
AatosParticipantHmm. They had some really good artists. Why doesnt things like that happen in Europe?

everyonelovesjaronParticipantI was going to buy tickets, but hadn’t yet. You know, one thing Perry might have neglected to think about is, alot of us "Lollapalooza kids" have grown up to become "Lollapalooza adults" with the full time jobs that accompany such things. For me to take two days off of work (like I’d have to to attend the Thursday/Friday shows locally) would require alot of effort, and frankly it just wasn’t going to happen. I was planning on going to the day one show with Modest Mouse/Morrisey/Sonic Youth, but like so many others, hadn’t bought tickets because whether I could go or not depended on work situations 2 months from now.
I think Lollapalooza 2005 (if such a thing goes down) should try to be all weekends in maybe 8 cities and since the lineups would be so good with so few dates, it’d be sort of like a mini-Coachella that people would travel to. It’d work alot better.
All and all, I wish it hadn’t gotten cancelled, but Modest Mouse/Broken Social Scene had an off-fest date that they say they’re honoring, so I’m heading to that. Oh well.

rambleonParticipantthat’s a good point that i hadn’t thought about … you’re right … over here there aren’t any festival tours as such … the festivals are mostly a weekend event (over 2 weekends at the most – like the ATP festival in the spring) … plus, you guys don’t get as much time off as people do over here … i think my husband gets a total of 28 holiday days this year, or maybe it’s 25, but still that’s a lot of days to play around with … but what’s up with the kids who have time off during the summer … why aren’t they interested ?

RobertParticipantPerhaps we’re too old? I mean, the bands/artists that I would’ve bought tickets to listen to are Morrissey, PJ Harvey, Modest Mouse, Watt + Secondmen, Le Tigre, Flaming Lips and the Pixies. And even though they’re great I can somehow understand that the 16-18 years old of today don’t have the same "connection, feeling, whatever" towards those bands as I and those at my age and up do. A lot of the kids hadn’t even started school when the Pixies were about last time. So perhaps this only seems like a great lineup to us, and not to people between 15-19. I don’t know.
