AnnastefkaParticipantFinally I have everyone in bed, and it’s almost mid-night.
Well, crazy cloud, you are on the right path, a hickory wind is made by a fire that is burning hickory wood.
Hickory trees are fast growing in the Southeast, so they are the wood of choice for many people because it isn’t expensive, it cures well and
has a nice smell when burning. The hickory tree is a bit unusual as it will grow in the shade. Up until the 70’s here in Georgia up in the mountains many, many families still cooked with hickory. It is used as firewood to heat homes and wood is still a popular way to heat, we heat our house with wood. When you get out of the city, the late fall and winter air is full of the earthy sweet smelll, and like all of us know, smells go straight to the memory and emotion centers of the brain. Who doesn’t feel warm and cozy witha nip of cold air on the face and the glorious smell of hickory all around. We usually light our first fire around Thanksgiving time.September 10, 2005 at 10:19 am #112535
