FlyingCloudParticipantI work in the customer service of a big german insurance company (generally the job is ok, although today all customers screamed at me
but it’s not always like that, only when the overdue notices are freshly sent out)
I do all kinds of customer communication about existing insurance contracts (phone, mail, email), selling contracts is not part of my tasks.
I haven’t learned the insurance biz, I came there by accident. I studied anthropology & finished with a degree, but didn’t follow it afterwards.

AnnastefkaParticipantI am up at 3:00 because the dogs are freaking out!!! Something is out there. They are growling, snarling, howling, whimpering I woke the big guy up but he thinks it’s just a fox. I know the dogs; they don’t act like this over a fox.
Well, what do I do. Right now I have the pleasure of staying at home and taking care of the house. I really like it!! Taking the children to school, taking the dogs to the vet. Going to the bank. Just the laundry with 5 members plus Anna makes six is such a lot. I do the shopping and prepare meals. When my husband comes home we have dinner in the oven or on the table. We have 2 bathrooms and just the traffic, ugggg! Little boys are another thing, my son was reading his lego magazine (comes every month) while standing at the toliet, I happened in and noticed his pee was not even hitting the water but hitting the top of the bowel and sort of falling on the floor, Gross
Now I know. To make extra money I watch Anna and other children after school until parents finish work. I do some sewing also. I taught in a Montessori environment but decided two years ago to spend my time at home so that the beds would be made and laundry folded and put up. I make enough money each month to pay the childrens tuition, health care , groceries and gas for the car, Juan takes care of the rest. We have no mortgage or car payment, I have some money put away in stocks, we have an IRA and some mutual funds, so that helps us to be a little more free. My husband on his passport list Artist as his occupation. So you can imagine the cash just flowing in ,right.
Oh, Flying Cloud, Mercury in the sky is again in Retrograde which causes all sorts of little problems. When we called the insurance agency from the dentist office yesterday, I was saying a mantra in my head over and over " I am not angry at this person on the phone" because I was so angry but I knew I was not angry with the person from the agency who was trying to help me. I wanted to say "F*ck YOu, your company has been drafting money out of my bank account and this is what I get" but I kept praying and it worked out. I am sorry you had a day with people yelling at you.

maxiniParticipantI’m a theoretical physicist, doing research on the gravitational fields of compact objects such as neutron stars and black holes. Didn’t plan to be one it just happened, but it scares me that I’m getting older (I’m 31) and oughtta start thinking about if I really want it as my career.. brrrr, hate that word, "It threatens my freedom!" as a woman I recently fancied said to me after I called her a few times too many to ask her to go out with me again. I guess at my age I should know that "you can call me anytime" really means "you can call me anytime, but mind you, should I not be in the mood for it you’d better just bugger off." Well I also work only when I have to, and sometimes not even when I have to because "I’m so bloody good working under pressure that I don’t mind having loads of it before I get started", as I sometimes think to myself.

MattmanParticipantI work as computer support for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (don’t worry, I’m not sworn law enforement, just a normal office worker).
I’m 2nd tier, not the help desk, but the guy who actually goes out to the end users offices to fix stuff. I make about the same as Rich…
To be honest, I’m pretty over-qualified for what I do, but I’ve got benifits, job security, and really cool coworkers (and my boss is a local bluegrass musician… very talanted!) Plus I really like the fact that my job allows me to walk around the building and meet new people. Whereas most office workers get yelled at for being away from their desks too much, I get fussed at if I’m at my desk too much… A much better situation if you ask me.
I might decide to put my neck on the line and try for some bigger, better (but almost certainly riskier) job in the future, but I’m happy were I’m at, so I’m not in too big of a hurry…
In the meantime, I’m in discussion with a local buddy of mine about starting a weekend side-business where we repair and service older electronic music equipment (tube amps, older guitar effects, etc.) This one’s still in discussion though, so there’s not much to tell just yet. We do have a couple of friends who are interested in being our first clients though…

Anyway, how far down into Florida? My husband and his good friend Kiyoaki Kato are your perfect clients. They collect all of that old stuff and have it repaired, if they don’t have the time or can’t. I have seen lots of those tube amps go into the shop. The guy that fixes them takes a long time, like 6 weeks or so. My final thought, sounds like a fun business.

I’m in Tallahassee, so not far down at all…
I’m thinking the biz will be fun. I actually enjoy working on that kind of stuff as a hobbie, so why not cash in a little bit?
