GideonParticipantHi
My name is Gideon. I was born in January 1986 in London and lived here my whole life. So at the time of writing this I’m only 15. I’ve only recently discovered this website and have spent most of my time in the guitar room. I’m the only Dino fan I know in London or anywhere for that matter, so finding this site was kinda cool for me. I’ve been raving about Dino for about a year and a half to anyone who will listen, but most people are indifferent.
If you are for any strange reason interested in how a kid like myself got into the band we all love so much, read on. If not bye bye.
I started getting heavily into music at about 11 when I was really into skating and trying to do stoopid stunts all the time. I liked stuff by Garbage, Green Day, Offspring etc.
After I got into Nirvana at like 13 or something (and got all their incredible records and was totally obssessed), my musical taste spread out a bit more. I checked out various related bands and generally opened my eyes to music that wasn’t just major selling stuff. I started to read ‘rock’ magazines/fanzines and somewhere along the way I heard about Dinosaur Jr. I thought they sounded like a cool band, so I got hold of Green Mind and got hooked. This was like only a year and bit ago, so I’m kind of new to the band. Since then I’ve gotten a few more Dino Records but the problem is that record stores only have them on special import so the prices are ridiculous.
I started working out how to play guitar on the dusty acoustic from the attic nearly 2 years ago. After a few months I got an electric one. Over the past 4 years, my dedication and passion for music have continually increased as my grades slowly dropped and I became less and less interested in formal education. (This is probably very dumb and the chances are that I’ll regret this wasted opportunity in a few years time when it is too late. C’est la vie).
My Hobbies are: Music & guitars (duuuh), hanging out with and trying to meet nice/cool people, illegal chemical substances, sleep, videos, video games, making dumb videos of people doing even dumber stuff while under some sort of chemical influence, and your average adolescent pastimes.
I love loads of bands: Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr, Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, Sex Pistols, Alice in Chains, Tad, Jane’s Addiction, Butthole Surfers, Big Black, Joy Division, Melvins, My Bloody Valentine, REM, Hendrix, Red Hot Chilli’s, Fu Manchu, Bush, Foo Fighters, Smiths, 60’s Surf Music, 80’s/90’s alternative and 70’s punk/new wave. (Too many more can’t be bothered to type them all out but you get the picture). If you’re still reading this you must be very bored, so I’ll let you go and find something better to do.
Gideon
PS: J Mascis rules.
PPS: If anyone lives in London is gonna be here anytime and wanna meet, mail me at if you want.November 29, 2001 at 7:44 pm #61178
CaleParticipantGreat Story
Well, "hi", i’m Cale (obvisouly), and I live in the U.S.
I am 16, so it’s pretty cool for me to hear someone post that’s around my age.
I have pretty much the same story, but I hate greenday, offspring, ect .
I listen to:
J & Dino (duh!), NIRVANA (check out my site), Mudhoney, Melvins, Meat Puppets, (i am listening to a Curt Kirkwood solo acoustic bootleg now, it rules), The Jesus Lizard, Nebula, Murder City Devils, The list goes on and on….November 29, 2001 at 11:32 pm #61179
rosaParticipant~Welcome aboard Gideon~
Wow, finally someone else who likes surf music!
Nice to have you here. I think there are a few other members here from London; you should be able to do a search on this site (if the search function is working today )
Take care,
Rosap.s. very cool name

HalfmanParticipantI need a miracle…. Oops wrong hippie site
(The msg icon I picked reminds me of Garcia.)Hey Gideon,
Welcome aboard. Glad to hear you didn’t have to suffer through hair metal at 15. Some of it was pretty cool though. I was the Bhagwan Rajneesh of my "high" school. Usually tried to keep stoned morning noon and night. Yeah, the grades sucked at the time but I had to do what I had to do. No regrets. Things are fine now… with some adjustments that come naturally as you and me and time go on. No real lessons to add here, but don’t feel bad about something you can’t do anything about. If you can and you want to, go ahead. If not, blame others….

GideonParticipantAnd Hello to you peoples too
Hey Rosa, You like surf?!
Who do you likeOh yeah and Cale, I really went off Offspring and Green Day when they signed massive record deals, and started making shit muzak, but I still think their early records rule.

JavroModeratorAlways nice to see some Lahndaaaaaaaahn people on the site. Top of the fackin’ morning to ya kid. Beware – a penchant for Joy Division can only lead to bad things. Enjoy your time here – there are some lovely people on the boards. Remember that American people can’t read as quickly as us Brits, so type messages slowly. ha ha. dfkgurlParticipantHey, Javro – the London dentists do that sort of thing too? I was traumatized at about age 13 when my dentist got arrested (and convicted) for doing nasty things to ladies while they were under the gas. Leery of dentists ever since, though still gotta get the gas to handle the visit. My current dentist has an open office sorta thing going on – oughta be required for all dental offices.

AGAPParticipantHey,
Welcome to the boards Gideon & Cale…
Mattman…LMAO
DFK definitely with you on that open office deal, mine when I was your age was a kinda sadistic guy He would leave you sitting in a dark room with all these dental structures etc in your mouth. He would come back and say stuff like "you really hate me don’t you"…well I did so I thought he could read my mind He didn’t mess with patients as far as I could tell but he would actually pinch & chase the techs around the dental chair…with me in it So the gas deal sounds like a plan…althou hidden cam might be the way to keep things safe
Allison…paranoid in canada, blaming it on the snow and cold

TimParticipantJavro,
You’re not going to believe this but I missed Superchunk – long story!
Been to the Warrington?
I just got back from the States. I spent some time in Boston and NYC. Unfortunately no good gigs – bad timing for me.
Drop me a line I’ll meet up for a beer or maybe i’ll see you at Tesco.

GideonParticipantHey,
Another Girl Another Planet, do you happen to like that song with the exact same title by the Only Ones? If so, its a kinda kool song but anyways,..December 10, 2001 at 6:58 am #61191
JavroModeratorHi Passion and Tim – am very well thanks for asking.
Timmy – in Warrington most nights (and tesco’s too, but keep it to yerself). Will ring you this week.
And as for you Mattman – if we don’t have dentists in London, how does Shane MacGowan keep his teeth in such order when he is over?? Answer me that.
