WhipsterParticipantIs anyone going to see the gig in Groningen, the Netherlands? I’m getting nervous ’cause I’m gonna do the support there with my band Whipster and I’m looking forward to it so much. I really am curious how Jay Mascis will sound today, the last time I saw him play was I think ten years ago at the same club, Vera, with Bob Mould as support. A pitty that Ron Asheton will not be here, but hey, can’t have it all. Take care you all, Peter

AGAPParticipantHey,
Just picked myself up off the floor, Bob Mould warming up for a J Mascis show….doesn’t get much better than that!!!
Prepare to be amazed, J just keeps getting better and better. You should check out some of the recent live shows on the site as a warm up for the show…very cool.

WhipsterParticipantHey Allison, I surely will be prepared to let the whole thing get over me Wednesday evening, I heard yesterday that the club will be almost sold out, so it’s gonna be an unforgettable night. I’d never been on a bbs before, but indeed, it’s a nice way to warm up, though it also makes me nervous.
You like Bob Mould that much? I prefer Grant Hart (Nova Mob), together they were great, but I like the voice of Hart more.

WhipsterParticipantHello Not2Amused, hope you’re gonna like your first J show! Please be there early, so you can hear us playing with Whipster, we will start at ten o clock and only are allowed to play 35 minutes. That’s gotta do it. Hard to describe what kinda music we make, it’s loud, not too fast, lotta feedback, sometimes with a drone, reverb, twang. Can you imagine something? Hope to see you, would be funny. Where are you from? Enjoy Mascis!

AGAPParticipantHey Whipster,
Glad your here on this BBS, always nice to have people with similar tastes…love Bob Mould but also prefer Grant’s voice. Just saw Grant in April…absolutely amazing I was completely awestruck. Small amp, semi acoustic guitar under purple and yellow lights singing his heart out…WOW!!!
Let us know how the show goes, your set included for sure!!! Hope you get together with some other freakscene people at the gig…definitely good people with excellent taste.

irishwhipParticipantWhipster, what an interesting name for a band! My band is called Irish Whip and I’m a big fan of J Mascis too! I’m afraid I’m not gonna go to Groningen, but I will absof***inlutely go to Eindhoven, the 12th.
Very cool you’re gonna play before J, I don’t think they want my band to play as a support-act. Good luck and have a lot of fun.

WhipsterParticipantNice Not2Amused, hope you’ll like it. You’ve already reserved your tickets I hope, ’cause it’s gonna be crowded I heard, almost sold out, so you’ve gotta drink beer in plastic glasses, 🙁

WhipsterParticipantHey Pim, what an interesting band name you have! Irish Whip! Sounds funny, together with Whipster. What kinda music do u make?
You’re going to Eindhoven? There’s another band from Groningen doing the support, Lawn, check them out, they’re nice people. Their music is maybe a little bit in the direction of God Machine and Motorpsycho.
Thanks, I will do my best!
Have fun tomorrow!June 11, 2001 at 1:03 pm #62130
WhipsterParticipantHey Allison, thanx for welcoming me. Yeah, it’s nice to see what other people think of the tour so far, though it makes me nervous for Wednesday! I just heard yesterday, at the concert of I Am Kloot, that we don’t get food at the gig, but hey, whatever. Where did you see Grant Hart play? I hope he will make it to the Netherlands, he’s nice. Met him a couple of times, told him his music sounded to me like gospel, he never heard that before 🙂
Hey, I will let you know how things went.

AGAPParticipantHey Whipster,
Looking forward to your review of the show, any sounds from your band Out There on the web anywhere?
Saw Grant in one of the smallest towns I have ever been in my whole life…kind of frightening actually…very Children of the Corn Experience…creepy. Met him a couple times as well, very charming guy!! He has a new web site open at granthart.com with all tour dates and a link to a dcn show…webcast from 7th street in Minneapolis.
Good luck and like I said looking forward to your spin on the show…enjoy yourself!!

SamwiseParticipantWoh Whipster, I’m jealous of you. I just checked out the vera-groningen website and I was wondering about who Whipster were. I was thinking what an honour it would be to play support for J. You can actually meet him backstage. I can’t believe it’s almost sold out, so how big is vera anyway??
See you all on wednesday, can’t wait!!!!June 11, 2001 at 3:59 pm #62133
WhipsterParticipantHey Samwise, when Vera is sold out it means there are more than 500 people. Yeah, it really is an honour to do the support, especially in our hometown, lots of familiair faces, though the public is naturally coming out to see Mascis play, but hey. You’re coming to watch the show? All the way from Nieuw-Vennep? Hope you’re on time to see us play, I’m curious to hear what you think of what we do. We don’t have a webpage yet, but we work on it.
Take care,
Peter

irishwhipParticipantHi Whipster!
My band Irish Whip plays more metal-like music. It’s very amateurish (?), it’s all recorded in my own bedroom. But we have a lot of fun!! My webpage: http://www.irishwhip.com
Have a look!!By the way: I saw your emailadress in your profile; those initials are almost the same as mine!! (You: prvdh, mine: pcvdh) Take that with your and mine bandname: damned we’re almost alike!
Good luck tomorrow,
Pim
