One night some kids were playing in a unfinished house until they got chased off by an adult, they ran into the woods,it was coming on dark, the kids were looking for a way out to go home when they saw a ball of light in front of them, there was no source of light in the woods,it scared the hell out of them, when they moved one way it would follow,it was like it was hovering off the ground, they of course ran off and wondered what it was and later figured out where they were at:the woods were near an old house that was rumored to be haunted.
In the winter, one of the kids were snowmobiling with a friend, they went on the property of the house then suddenly the snowmobile stopped, they tried to get it to start again but could`nt,then something strange happened-time froze;the wind stopped, the trees stopped moving, everything went dead silence, the kids felt like they could`nt move, they kept trying with the snowmobile until finally it started working and raced out of there fast.
The next story is`nt a ghost story, but a creepy experience.2 guys in Ontario, here in Canada were talking about Al Capone one day,one guy was saying that Capone was nt tough, that he `d piss on his grave, the other guy dared him to and he said he would,so they drove to Illinois to find Capone`s grave. They asked around and found out that Capone was buried at Mount Carmel Cemetary in Cook County. When they arrived there they felt that they entered the twilight zone, dead trees all around and not a person in sight. They found his grave, huge headstone, stood in front of it spooked by everything around them and said let`s get the hell out of here.
Sorry if I did`nt put enough detail in these,my neck is pulled out or in spasm,it`s hard to hold up my head, did`nt want to ramble on too much, both these stories I heard on the radio years ago so it`s hard to remember every detail, yes, these are true stories.
Thanks to Halfman for help on Capone`s burial location.
I might post more stories later,depends how my neck feels.October 31, 2001 at 12:02 pm #72358
Cool stories, that Capone graveside deal
Some friends of mine had a weird ball of light experience while driving thru the Arizona desert. They were driving at night, only ones around until they see this light coming up behind them, they thought it was a motorcycle. This light pulls up along their back driver side door, its not a bike just a light My pal says he just stomped on the gas the the thing kept up and adjusted to the turns with them for about ten minutes…scared the crap out of them!!!! It then just vanished and they just kept speeding on out of there He believes it was some sort of alien deal, he swears he was not in an altered state and I believe him on that one. Not sure what to make of that story, maybe I will send him out a couple of those aluminum foil protection devices for christmas
Hope you feel better, sounds kinda painful.

I saw a tv show once on ball lightning, which is a type of lightning which follows people, could have been that in Arizona or an alien encounter as you said.I think those kids in the woods though did`nt see ball lightning,it did`nt chase them but did move in the direction when they stepped left or right,my guess it was a ghost since that haunted house was in that area.
The story behind the house was a old woman who did`nt allow kids around her house, she would chase them away, guess after she died death could`nt get her to leave.
The house behind the house I lived in until I was 6 years old was haunted,I did`nt even know till years later,my Mom did`nt tell me when we lived there because she thought it would scare me,any kid at that age would be scared for sure.
Strange things did happen there, their truck caught fire for no reason at all,the lights would flicker, they always tried to keep the lights on at night, the bed`s used to levitate, etc. I don`t know how the people lived in it without going crazy.
There`s another haunted house tale I heard about,it`s a house near a bridge. It`s said that at night you can hear horses feet walk up the steps(sounds like something in a Sparklehorse song). At halloween the lawn is filled with lit candles, tons of them, hoping that it would help out.I don`t know if any one lives there now,it`s usually for sale!like anyone wants to buy a haunted house.
My neck feels better now, might have been the rain and hail I was in the other day,got some kind of cold in it or I twisted it somehow.October 31, 2001 at 4:52 pm #72360
One winter night, several years ago, my friend & I were walking through the graveyard near my dad’s house in upstate NY. While I wouldn’t walk through by myself at night, it was a walk we often took together when we didn’t feel like walking on the road. It was peaceful, quiet, and nothing weird ever happened…until this one night.
The cemetery runs about two blocks long, and the path that goes through it is parallel to the street. The path is lined with several large trees, and that night they were covered with snow and really heavy and saggy.
So Marie and I are walking along, talking, and we suddenly hear this weird noise– it sounds like there are hundreds of birds in the tree ahead of us, but we can’t see any signs of them. It is this crazy deranged sound, like a squall of loons. Since we can’t SEE any birds, we figure that maybe they are cloaked by the heavy snow and branches. So we each grab a snowball and throw it square into the middle of the branches. Nothing flies out and the sound stops all at once.
So we are weirded out but we keep walking (we’re already halfway through). We take a few more steps and we hear the same exact deranged sound, only it’s coming from the NEXT tree, 20 yards ahead. And again when we get close, we throw snowballs at it and it stops, and nothing flies out or even moves. The next tree, the sound happens again, but by this time we quit with the snowballs and just decide to haul ass. It keeps happening at each tree– sounds like a thousand crazy birds making this strange deranged noise….and then it stops when we get within striking range.
This is my only legitimate eerie story and it still gives me goosebumps when I think about it. Suffice to say, I haven’t cut through that graveyard since.

Good call on the Sparklehorse parallel in that last story, great lyrics by that guy. Still looking for that 1st disc, looks like a road trip may be needed to get that one
Glad your feeling better

Crazy experience, Rosa. Snowballs in hell. No chance.October 31, 2001 at 11:32 pm #72363
My step dad doesnt believe in ghosts, he thinks its dumb to, but when he lived in Jonesborogh TN (supposedly friggin haunted out the kazoo) he had to drive to work every morning at like 5 or 5:30. He came to a very small road, one that I have traveled many times, its a road, that comes to an end, then turns either right or left. Theres a big feild next to every road, and its like 20 degrees outside. He came to the end of the road and stopped at the stop sign, and saw something coming through the fence from the feild onto the road directly in front of him. He made it out to be a man in about his 40s, dressed in a full civil war uniform. The man stared him down as he passed him. About ten years later, my step dad started doing geneology, and found a picture of his great great grandmother, standing with that very man he’d seen 10 years earlier. It turns out the man was his great great grandfather. He hadnt ever seen a picture of him untill then, so he didnt even know what he looked like. He still dosent really believe in ghosts, but now he is a little bit more open to the issue. There are a whole crap load of things that are weird in Jonesborogh. Nothing ever hits the media thoguh, well, since they hung the Elephant for killing a lot of people….still no elephant ghosts have been reported though…hehehehehe.November 1, 2001 at 12:26 am #72364
Yikes, some pretty spooky stuff goin’ on in here…
Hey rosa, maybe you were being persued by some mutant, conjoined, mega-omnipigeon.
Well, no ghost stories here, but I have had a weird, full-moon Halloween day. It seems that the combination of the full-moon with Halloween robs me of my super, kung-fu, Mattman powers… I’ll explain…
It started at about 5am this morning when, somehow in my catatonic state, I managed to pull my blanket into a glass of water I had on my nightstand… Nice icy-cold suprise there.
Then, around 10am, I was doing some laundry, and this collapsable, wooden clothesrack thing that we keep on a hook over the washer, falls off and SMACKS ME IN THE HEAD!!! Fortunately, the thing is very light, so it did little more than make me mad…
Finally, as I was leaving for my class, around 3pm, I went to roll down my car’s window (yes, I have to roll down my windows the old-fashion way). Somehow, I managed to jump the window crank out of its gear… … I managed to pop it back into place, but its still a little grindy… not good…
It’s Halloween alright… November 1, 2001 at 2:59 am #72365
Who the fuck would drive from Ontario to Indiana to piss on Capone’s grave?
I mean, drinking much?
Other then that, great stories, Salami. I love a good ghost story. I’ll try and type up some and post them tonite!October 30, 2002 at 7:50 pm #72366
We`re only a few hours away from that scary day
Any weird happenings or strange stories to tell post them here October 30, 2002 at 8:16 pm #72367
My mom was once at some kind of conference in Gettysburg, and was staying in either a flat dorm or hotel that was on an old war ground. In the middle of the night she would hear horses’ hooves, really loud and thundering. And every morning, at exactly the same time, there would be a sharp rapping at her door just before dawn. And of course, each time, no one was there when she checked.
Also, my mom and particularly my sister have somewhat psychic tendencies, and both of them have had weird premonitions, out of body experiences, etc. My mom thinks they’re cool, but my sister, who is the most sensitive, hates it and gets really upset and withdrawn when things happen.
For example, my sister’s boyfriend’s birthday is on September 11th. Last year, he was away from home and was going to fly back to Seattle (from New York) on his birthday, and my sister freaked out and insisted that he come back a day early. Then, on the 11th, at the same time as the bombings, she said a large shadow moved over the overhead light in her apartment, darkening everything, and she heard a deafening mechanical sound for well over ten minutes. She was in bed at the time, and couldn’t move because she was so freaked out.
My mom also had an intense experience that day; she was dreaming in the early morning and had the sensation of moving really really fast (like on a carnival ride where you rise up out of your seat slightly) and then coming to a violent halt, whereupon she woke up.
I gotta stop here; I’m freaking myself out.

. . .and when they opened the car door, they found a HOOK wedged in it. Bwahahaha
Seriously though, I have a friend who’s VCR was repaired by a ghost.October 31, 2002 at 11:36 am #72369
Back in high school a guy told a story about once his class was on a field trip in a graveyard and he found a grave with his name on it even the same middle name it was even more scary when he saw the man had died the day he was born
A number of years ago,a partridge came crashing through the bedroom window,my sister was in there but ran out just in time, something told her to get out of there fast.We got a phone call later that my grandmother`s sister had died, she died around the same time as the partridge crashed through, she had the same name as my sister October 31, 2002 at 5:00 pm #72370
Long Distance DrunkParticipant
I went to a really small Catholic High School just outside of Pittsburgh, Pa. It is attached to a convent where about 100 nuns live. The nuns still wear the habits, they are pretty old school. They even have their own graveyard on the property. There were all kinds of stories about a "faceless" nun walking around the school and attached church when I was a freshman. I never listened to them, figured that it was a way to scare the youngins. So one day the nuns sat us all down and told us that the stories were true and she wasn’t dangerous, some of the sisters have seen her, she just has some unfinished business, blah blah blah! That’s not scary or anything, but what the hell kind of nun believes in ghost? And people wonder why I’m an athiest…October 30, 2003 at 12:54 pm #72371
