Well it’s happened again, but only now it’s even more out of control…

Tonight, one of the local channels here decided not to show SAVING PRIVATE RYAN because of fear that some parts may be considered "indecent" and the FCC would be forced to crack down on the broadcasting company.

It was already out of control but this is insane…

We have to put a stop to it…

Please, please, please….we have to stop it!!!!

I really thinks something like saving private ryan should be considered art, especially when it documents a true life story of ww2, theres nothing we can about the FCC, and George Bush’s victory just gave them more power

I was wondering how long it would take someone to pin this on Bush. Two posts…I’m impressed

The FCC does consider the movie art. The problem is, there are no set guidelines as to what context is OK and what is not. The FCC has the power to interpret any piece of work and declare "indecent" as it chooses. The FCC is judge, jury, and executioner. Too much power w/ no checks and balances. Who wants to risk displaying something only to have the FCC come back and bite you in the ass when someone calls in to complain.

Back to the first point…I don’t seem to recall John Kerry having much of an anti FCC stance. I talked w/ two extremely liberal friends (from Boston) this weekend, and they both agreed that the FCC should protect us and our children from foul language and indecent images, in all forms. They believe our government has an obligation to help parents raise their children, and youngsters should be protected by the government, so that when mom and dad aren’t around to take care of junior, junior isn’t being exposed to things he/she shouldn’t be. That is a very liberal viewpoint my friend, so I don’t want to hear that Bush’s victory is going to continue this trend.

The reason things aren’t going to change, because the attitude is, and I quote Rich directly "there’s nothing we can do about the FCC". Excuse me? Yes, yes, yes, that’s right, there’s nothing we can do about the FCC because you’re not willing to do anything about it. Heaven forbid you write your congressman, or the FCC directly for that matter. No, it’s just easier to complain and blame all of your problems on Bush.

I see in the other post about the election that everyone’s moving to Canada. Go on and run, because if you stay here, you might actually have to get off your butt to invoke change

I’m noticing a trend here…the people who claim to be "liberal" are actually some of the most closed-minded elitists there are. You’re all about equality, as long as my viewpoint coincides w/ your socio-econimic, religious, idealogical dogma. And if it doesn’t…I’m an idiot…or a "redneck"…

(I heard that one quite a bit in Boston as well, "REDNECKS". Seems to me that if a liberal was all about equality, the religious nuts and the slak-jawed yokals would have just as much worth as anyone else)

I love reading your posts kurticus!
Why does it suddenly think that saving private ryan has to be "stopped" ? Hasn’t this film been shown on american tv before? What has changed since then? Seems pretty odd to me.

it’s been shown before on american tv, even after 9/11. The big change came following janet jackson horrifying americans with a flash of her breast. Following that fines have been increasing to unbelievable amounts for instances of what a certain someone out there finds indecent, immoral etc. Whos the head of the fcc…is it a certain ex member of w’s inner circle, Colin Powell’s son :?

For the record Ive written my congressional rep’s about this, and even voted against democratic incumbants for voting for the indecency act. I feel the very liberal area that I live in is not being represented well, and i feel the same thing is going on with this country
