mike williamsonParticipantThough I’m stoked the original lineup is out pushing the first three SST records, I gotta admit my favorite Dinosaur record is actually from the Warner era – WHERE YOU BEEN.
2nd place is a three way tie: BUG, YOU’RE LIVIN, and HAND IT OVER
This poll has probably been done a million times, but whatever, right?

kracked873Participanti have to go green mind just cause its the first one i got way back (based on the cover) and i hit everything else after it so it was my doorway to dinosaur. id have to say you’re living all over me is right up there with it but i have to vote underdog cause i think lots of people will go for that one.

davidpropsParticipantYou’re Livin’ All Over Me is definitely my fave. I bought it when it came out on SST (I still have it–without the Jr on the cover), and instantly realized they were the coolest band on the planet.
Side One was one of those experiences that changes your life forever. I knew I had found something I could relate to. Bug is a close second, and I saw them on tour for Bug, but I love Livin’ because it rocks so hard and really made me fall for the boys.
Every Dino album is great, I think, but Livin’ defines their greatness in terms of passionate songs with those killer solos. Sludgy production, out there lyrics, and it all made me happy to be a misfit electric guitar loving freak. Unforgettable!

RSTguitarsParticipantI have to say that, from a songwriting standpoint, I’ve always thought Without a Sound was the best.
Of course, I’ll always hold Green Mind in high regard because it was my introduction to Dino.

NCDanParticipantYLAOM, hands down, followed closely by Bug. I also have the SST lp for YLAOM issued before the name change. Where You Been is a great sounding record, though.

I like FREE SO FREE better than MORE LIGHT, and think FREE is better than the first DINOSAUR record, WITHOUT A SOUND, and maybe even GREEN MIND (though nothing on FREE is as good as THE WAGON or THUMB).

andyfestParticipantWow, better than Green Mind!? I like the solo stuff but not THAT well. Personally, I like More Light better than Free So Free. I think Free So Free is probably my least favorite if you take into account both Dino and the solo stuff. More Light stacks up well against Hand it Over and I think I like it better than Dinosaur but I like everything else from Dino better than the solo stuff.

It sounds more dynamic and purposeful than LIGHT to me. MORE LIGHT has some great songs, but I find myself spacing out in a lot of them…not paying attention. It’s weird, but it happens every time. I say…OK…I’m going to listen INTENTLY to this record and quit daydreaming in the middle…But I always end up daydreaming. MORE LIGHT’s cool, but it sounds more tossed off than FREE does to me.
If I were to rate EVERYTHING J’s done (I’m not including live albums or BBC stuff):
WHERE YOU BEEN
YOU’RE LIVING ALL OVER ME
HAND IT OVER
BUG
FREE SO FREE
GREEN MIND
WITHOUT A SOUND
MORE LIGHT

mcfc_philParticipantBug for me too.
(Like most of you) I’m going for the one that was the first one I heard.
It has some wonderous songs on it – FreakScene (obv), They Always Come, The Post, Let It Ride, Budge, wonderful.
I actually never got that into YLAOM – Dinosaur would be my next favourite, I think.
