OriginalPosterLostParticipantSo I gave in & downloaded Napster yesterday. If anyone’s interested, someone there has a version of "Freakscene" done by Blink 182. Not a big fan of Blink but the cover isn’t too bad; softer & a little more pop-sounding. I just can’t get over their awful voices.
p.s. Chris, I’m sketching out a workout routine based solely on Mascis material. I call it "Dino-robics"… So far it’s just jumping jacks to "The Little Baby" but I’m working on it. Hee hee…
p.p.s. Jeremiah, I should get karma for this.[This message has been edited by rosa (edited October 09, 2000).]

OriginalPosterLostParticipantThanks for telling me something I totally did not need to know. Such a tasteful choice of words, too; I’m sure your girlfriend would be proud.

OriginalPosterLostParticipantI remember reading somewhere that Robert Smith (The Cure) said he likes the Dino version of JLH, and says that it has influenced the way they now play the track live.

~~~~~~~
–this one’s funny because the inteviewer makes fun of Dave Grohl>> Interviewing Nirvana recalls those early features on Dinosaur Jr – um, you know, lots of pauses, averted
gazes and meaningless spiels like "Our music is a medicine ball heaped upon the audience for their own
therapy."With Dinosaur, though, you didn’t have to put up with a lame-brained drummer like Dave Grohl, the latest in a
six-long line of Nirvana sticksmen. A pain in search of an arse, Dave’s interview "technique" consists of a
series of elaborate stories which aren’t far-fetched enough to be unbelievable, yet are too tedious to make
for an obvious game of Let’s Bait The Journalist.>> "I usually just take the J Mascis Fifth Amendment and say nothing," shrugs Kurdt. "I personally don’t care
what my favourite bands’ music is about or what their personal interests are. It usually just affects me
musically. I mean, they could be speaking in tongues and it wouldn’t matter to me as long as it sounds
good.">> "If we hadn’t met our time commitments at the end of our recording period, we would just have bought our
songs from Gloria Estefan or Warrant or J Mascis. J’s got a shit-load of songs floating around. He’s always
trying to palm them off on people too – ‘Here, you wanna buy a song for a quarter?’ That’s a quarter of a
million dollars – that’s what we mean when we say a quarter – and we can afford that cos we’re on a major
label now.—
>>
Cobain is happier to reel off a list of some of the bands he does like: the Breeders, the Pixies, R.E.M., Jesus Lizard, Urge Overkill, Beat
Happening, Dinosaur Jr and Flipper.—
>>
A Message from Kurt Cobain, Chris Novoselic and Dave Grohl to you: "Most of these bands and records can be found in small Mom and
Pop record stores: Jesus Lizard, Urge Overkill, the Melvins, Beat Happening, Fugazi, Mudhoney, Hole, Shonen Knife, Dinosaur Jr, Pixies,
Teenage Fan Club…we could go on and on, but we don’t have our record collections in front of us. And check out labels such as SST.
Write away for their mail-order catalogs, because there’s ten years of good stuff to hear."—
Krist – Since our record has done so well, we can open up doors for other bands, from where we come from, like Sonic Youth or
Mudhoney, or the Melvins, or L7, or Dinosaur. Jr .I can just go on and on and on and on.sorry for the long post
dinojrfrk2ParticipantThe (now defunct) Gin Blossoms also love J Mascis. Spoke with Phil about it back in 1992 because I noticed on the first pressing of their New Miserable Experience CD there was one of the guys with a dino t-shirt.
simmonsParticipantSwedish death metal band Entombed has one of their members in a dino t shirt in one of their cd booklets.
Entombed is not strictly death metal, though they started out in that genre. Some of their albums have incorporated more hardcore punk and and detroit rock. One of their earlier members went on to hellacopters.
