I just thought of something,there once was a discussion of indie cred on the local college station,a guy was talking about Evan Dando and the Lemonheads and how he misses the days in the 80`s that punk/indie bands were ugly,not like the 90`s Lemonheads looking like prom dates.He said that was street cred,if you were ugly like Husker Du,Minutemen,etc it was a good thing(not trying insult these guys).
I guess he longs for the days when punks and indie guys were`nt pretty boys,take Blink 182 for a recent example;you think back in 82 Social D would be teen heartthrobs?nope.(they`re still not today,thank God).
Guess it shows how punk/indie rock was screwed by the mainstream in the 90`s after Nirvana went big.

Odd that deal about how bands in the 80’s were viewed as ugly…superficial assessment in my opinion. To me interesting, challenging and innovative qualify in the WOW kinda way before the prom date kinda deal that Evan had happening.

If not bathing is indie cool then the weirdos in my apt building are huge indie fans!
The clothing thing is dumb,I`m not very fashionable or care much for trendy clothes to have a indie look,guess that`s why no one would have guessed at the music I listened to in high school,problably would have shocked them that I like Sonic Youth,they would never had believed it.
My theory on indie fans and cars:they don`t have them!(I don`t anyway,but that`s ok I walk where I want to go).How much indie rock do you hear out car windows in the summer-where I live-none,it`s always hip hop or dance music.

No dissing Evan from me,I like the LH,the teen idol status was short lived,after the boy bands came around,the girls forgot all about Evan.
I think concentrating on the music is more important then what bands dress,talk,etc like.

I`m just confused today I guess.
The car thing,there`s not alot of indie fans in this city,Halifax is problably has more indie fans with cars,not like here in the heart of Darkness.
It`s a diffrent vibe in this town,the Haligonians laugh at Darkness(that`s why they call it Darkness,kinda backwards as compared to the larger more sophisticated city).
