RobertParticipant"Coma Girl" wrote:There are some very unhappy Italian fans at my fav coffee place, Bar Italia, a couple blocks from where I live…you should hear the conspiracy theories being tossed around…Yeah they’ve been crying all week about "oh denmark and sweden are gonna draw 2-2 just to keep us out," and then the result actually was 2-2 -so now they’re really geared up for some conspiracies. Having seen the match though, I’ve gotta say that it didn’t look like the two teams had decided to draw. Plus, Italy played like shit for two matches, so they have them selves to blame for not making the quarterfinals.
Also dB, looks like your guys made it through to the quarterfinals after all:DJune 23, 2004 at 5:42 pm #102382

, and at least it looks like our attack is working fine, the defense (even against a poor team like Latvia) had it’s dodgy moments though….
, so, now the knock-out part of the tournament starts, tomorrow Portugal vs. England, on Saturday Holland plays those great conspirators, the Swedes….

Calimero jr.ParticipantItaly should have won before instead of cryin’ now……anyway most of italian press says this, they shouldn’t have gone to the point where their qualification was partly dependent from another game. They’ve been lucky with that a couple of times in the past, this time it’s their turn to go home.
Congrats to Holland and Czech Republic in group D!!

HansioneParticipantWhet an incredible game last night. I thought that Germany would take their last chamce BUT!!!! Holland is through.
When the Germanmatch was over I waited for a half an hour to start celibrate, because with the German team one never can tell. But then the retsina and the ouzo and the result brought me in a splendid state of mind.
Lets see what happens against Sweden. After the previous match coach DickAdvocaat was exciled to " Robbenisland" , now he is back
Today is my final day in Greece
Well it was good!

RobertParticipantYeah, to see germany walk out before the quarterfinals was quite a surprise. And I must confess that I liked it. Looking forward to Portugal-England tonight, it could be a great match -unless both teams are terrified of being kicked out, which results in a boring 1-0 or 0-1 match. Or even worse, 0-0 and penalties.
Glad to hear that you’ve enjoyed your holiday HansioneJune 24, 2004 at 10:19 am #102386
rambleonParticipantplease no penalties … that would just about kill me
June 24, 2004 at 11:46 am #102387
RobertParticipantYeah penalties are death. Unless the team are like the english amateurs Corintheans who allways misses penalties on purpose because they think they’re not the gentleman way of scoring goals

June 25, 2004 at 6:25 am #102391
rambleonParticipantyes, today i am feeling the pain
… england should have won – the ref definitely had it all wrong … ah well, what can you do ?

RobertParticipantactually, if you look at these pics, you see that Terry clearly obstructs Ricardo. So I would say the ref did the right thing.
What I can’t understand is how Beckham, who puts in freekicks from 30 meters, can miss 3 penalties in a row.

Those soccer guys are sooooooooo cute.
We got to see images of fans from Portugal praying the rosary in the stands, couldn’t believe that…………
PS> It says over there that my age is 40, that sounds so old, When my mother was 40 she was so old, I remember that.
