rdParticipantAs excited as I am about the possibility of seeing Dinosaur Jr, I would actually rather see the latest incarnation of the Fog. Having watched some recent videos at FreeSoFree.net, I think the new Fog kicks ass. I caught the original lineup with Watt and George 4 times but have yet to see the Dave School and Kyle Spence version of the Fog. I hope Dinosaur Jr shows sell well and I hope to catch one but I would rather hear a new J Mascis and the Fog album and see the new band live. Also since I’m more of a fan of everything J has released from Green Mind forward, than of the first 3 Dinosaur Jr albums, maybe that also plays a little into me wanting to hear more recent and new material from J. From reading the boards I think I’m possibly the only person who would prefer the Fog to the original DinoJr but hey as long as J is playing it is gonna rock.

AGAPParticipantI love that they’ve put out the reissues, great for old fans to get the remastered, waayyy better sounding classics. Also cool to try & get some more action from new fans of Dinosaur Jr, hope it happens the music & group deserve the recognition!!!
Would love to see a reunion show at some point, fingers crossed over the summer they book a couple US shows. If not hopefully someone will video & share the thrill.
Bug is my fav, but all of Dinosaur/J Mascis material gets plenty of play time on my players as well !
There was talk of new J Mascis & The Fog material at some point over the last year, I really hope that happens. After watching the November ’04 show (huge thanks to FreesoFree & all the tapers involved !), I really want to check out some new shows & hear some new J Mascis & The Fog material.
So your not alone, I’d love to see a reunion show, definitely thrilled to have the reissues, but want new music & shows from J & The Fog as well, I want it all…

Oh, the best April fools joke
This afternoon my husband called me and
said "Dinosaur Jr is playing at the 40 watt
in July. " "I Just heard it" Wow, I thought
cool, when do the tickets go on sale?
"I want to go" I said, " Don’t Worry" he said.
We hung up and I continued
driving with a smile on my face.
He called back "Goof Ball"
"not inspired or uplifted huh?"
Well you see as rd said " as long as J is
playing it is gonna rock"
Sorry about the strange type but
something is screwed
on this computer.

kracked873Participantdinosaur jr. reunion is a special thing, maany many songs from the first albums havent been played like in like 17-18 years, any of these songs could be played at the shows these songs may never be played by the fog, or perhaps j will decide to bring some of these old songs into the fog set. i mean he only plays like 5-6 songs from the old albums these days. but the fog will allways have j latest stuff, and i love the fog songs. thats not what dinosaur is though. i mean to hate on them for not planning to record material before they even play for the first time in 16 years is crazy. you cant just say "were gonna reunite.. were gonna record new material" thats just not how it goes.. for j to say theyre NOT gonna record new stuff.. he took the right route in saying that.. at this point who knows whats to come. all i know is old dinosaur is great and anything they play will be great. i fucking love the fog though esspecially right now.. dave and kyle are the best.

rambleonParticipantwell, rd you’re not alone … i’ve said it before + i’ll say it again … i’m more excited about seeing j play (whenever, wherever) than i am in seeing the reunion show itself …
that doesn’t mean i’m not excited about the forum show … but i’d be there whoever j was playing with … or even solo for that matter …
i think a lot of younger people will have heard of them, but this will be their 1st chance to check them out live … and for the older folks, they’ll be on a nostalgia trip …
as far as i’m concerned, i 1st got into dinosaur jr i guess around the time of green mind, so i’m not going to relive my lost youth, or to check them out for the 1st time … i’ll just be there enjoying myself + hopefully being blown away by the awesome chemistry these 3 guys have together …

SGParticipantThe Dino reunion won`t last long and J will be back with The Fog soon and Lou will be back doing his solo thing. The reunion is just a cool thing to do for the occasion of the reissues.

andyfestParticipantI’m personally more excited about the reunion. As long as I get to catch a show, I’ll be happy. I didn’t have my hopes up that they’d record any new material together (it certainly looks like the won’t be) but if they were to record together again I’d be more excited about that than a new Fog album. Not so say I don’t like the Fog material, I do, but to me it’s no where near as good as the early dino stuff. Also, I thought Free So Free was a pretty big disapointment overall. I hope whatever comes out next is an improvement.

ammaringnycParticipantI think its all great. It would be cool if they did new stuff because the Fog is essentially all J and it would be cool to hear a little something else to counter thrown in there and I like Lou’s stuff alot so it would be a good counter balance but either way I agree I doubt technically it will top the last Fog but I have never seen J Lou Murph and I haven’t seen Murph (as Dino Jr. saw the Stooges) since 93 so that will be cool. Heck I am flying from NY to LA in hopes of seeing them, with no definitive confirmation of who it will be. I was kinda worried about J playing with that band Witch cause I want him to get on new stuff. I mean last I talked to him he said he had a bunch of songs already. Its been like 2 years since Free SO free but I think J just wants to chill. I don’t know how well it sold and touring is always a tuff balance for him to make money.

I thought More Light was great but I think I just got tired of the "free" theme throughout Free so Free overall. I really like "Otherside," "Everybody Lets Me Down," and "If That’s How It’s Going To Be." The rest of the album is great compared to 95% of music out there but not J’s best in my opinion. I still like the album, don’t get me wrong, I just don’t like it as well as other stuff he’s done.

kracked873Participanti agree i mean i like freesofree, but i like more light alot more. and theres some songs on freesofree i can go without but half of it hold up 100% so i cant say its not a great album.

That is a Gemini trait. After all of the activity of the last few days, photos and all. Ummm, I wasn’t uplifted or inspired at first but now I am.
I went to a school PTO meeting tonight and all of us moms were together and the hot topic was summer camps for the kids, I just kept wanting to add to the conversation by saying "Hey, what about that Dinosaur Jr. reunion" Instead I just stood there repeating the mantra "Someday, I must grow up."
over and over in my head.Gemini negative traits: changeable, restless, inconsistent, superficial,
unfortunately all true in my case.April 18, 2005 at 9:43 pm #108468
jeremiahKeymasterLOL
I hear J has been recording some new tunes and we can expect a new Fog album next year.
April 18, 2005 at 10:14 pm #108469
stannerParticipanthere is my dumass take:
been listening since forever and i feel the Fog stuff is more a J thang-since he writes and arranges everything you hear…
DINOSAUR JR is more than the sum of its parts…
there is a sound they create that no other trio can duplicate, and probably why it is so volatile-you cant be doing that stuff and have a semblance of normality that we all crave…
and man, to me to be the most powerful sound i have heard!
and believe me i have heard a lot!
