Dinosaur Jr. Coming Soon!
Keep watching! Merge Records has announced they are now booking dates for a Dinosaur Jr. Reunion Tour, in conjuction with the March 22 Merge Reissue of "Dinosaur," "Bug," and "You’re Living All Over Me." The albums were initially released on the Homestead and SST labels, but haven’t seen much action outside of the used record store circuit in some time. In fact, the original issues have been fetching a pretty penny on eBay as of late, proving that there’s a demand for vintage college rock anthems like "In A Jar," "Little Fury Things," "Freak Scene" and the Dino Jr. cover of The Cure’s "Just Like Heaven." Dinosaur Jr. leader J Mascis continues to be a underdog hero, as does bass player Lou Barlow (who went on to form Sebadoh — and recently underwent a reunion tour of his own.The new reissues will commemorate Dinosaur Jr.’s 20th anniversary — the band formed in Amherst, MA way back in 1984. In celebration of that milestone, the Merge people have spiffed the old recordings up, remastering all the music. As for the packaging, each disc will come with the original cover art and new booklets full of fancy liner notes by rock journo Byron Coley. Coley talked to the likes of Thurston Moore, Mike Watt and Robert Pollard to compile his notes, adding to the indie rock cred of the packaging.
In addition to the 20th anniversary bells and whistles, the reissues will also feature some new material. Look for a live version of "Does It Float" (on Dinosaur) and videos for Little Fury Things," "Just Like Heaven" (on You’re Living All Over Me), "Freak Scene" and "No Bones" (on Bug). http://mergerecords.com”>http://mergerecords.com

How to survive the dinosaur age
ON A recent Friday evening in London, Lou Barlow, the former bassist and songwriter with the Eighties fuzz-rock group Dinosaur Jr, played songs from his debut solo record Emoh. Read backwards, the title spells “Homeâ€

King TubbyParticipantAfter seeing how much J clearly enjoys playing with his new band, I for one am not really into the idea of a Dino Jr. reunion tour. Why force a revisitation of the past when both J and Lou appear to be so into where they’re at now as artists? A friend who saw the Pixies said they looked merely like they were going through the motions and didn’t seem into it much at all. Who’d want to see that?

tomParticipantI saw the Pixies play in Detroit, and I thought they we’re having a great time. It was so nice to see the members of the band looking over at each other during the middle of a song and smile at one another. It was obvious they we’re having a great time in Detroit.
I think they could tell from the audience how much they we’re appreciated and it was obvious they we’re really happy about it.

JayneParticipantNo matter what the reasons are they are doing a reunion tour, it’s their choice to do it and one can either support it or not. I don’t think that takes away at all from the recent Fog shows that J has seemingly been having a good time with.
I say bring it. And come to GA!!

ncbParticipantI don’t feel like the Georgia Public School Systems are that bad. South Carolina was much worse when I lived there with my dad in Sullivans Island, Charleston of all places. Most kids were rich as hell there and were in private schools, but i went to the public and I think it was about 80% blacks and me and a couple white kids who weren’t rich. The teaching was pathetic.
Ga schools are a lot better then that and I think this private schooling notion is overrated… Everyone stops learning at some point and its up to you as an individual to pursue things and find out what interests you and learn as much as possible. I push myself like crazy in music theory but when it comes to general schooling these college classes irritate the crap out of me and I just get by. I don’t think private schooling (Which i did have when I was younger) would ever change that. Like I said, its totally up to the individual person. My brothers all are at UGA in real majors not bullshit ones like journalism. They’re PreFarm, and PreMed.. They never went to Athens Academy. Everyone decides their own fate.
Sorry for the rant, but I felt this was very necessary. And about the reunion, I would support J in anything as a fan because why take a step backwards when you’ve worked for years to propell yourself in a different direction as an artist. I always have the recordings for those years and thats enough for me because frankly the two shows I saw last year here in Athens last year were way above normal par. I remember looking around and seeing bored eyes as he was soloing for the 9th minute and I just felt lucky to be able to be in his prescence. Damn fratboys!
