i recently acquired Dinosaur on cd and was mightily pleased with it. wow what an amazing album. its really interesting to hear their first album after hearing the 6 or 7 other albums he’s released. their sound changed so much through the years, their individual developments are amazing.

personally, i feel that ‘Dinosaur’ sounds like a mixture of later Dinosaur Jr with Sebadoh; you can see where they both took their music in seperate ways. lou barlow’s influence is very apparent, especially as he sings on a handful of songs.

Forget the Swan is one of the best songs ive heard; rather like a duet between J and Lou. if it wasnt for the bad recording, it would probably be my favourite Dino song. same goes for the rest of the album really, had the recording been better, the music would have sounded more together and well-rounded…altho its kinda cool, a very raw sound. if any fans out there dont have this album, then they should try their hardest to get it, its a class album, and considering it came out in ’85, it was well ahead of its time.

I agree, the first album is fantastic. J said he owns the rights to the album and that he would see about getting more copies pressed in the future so it would not be so hard to find

Hey, I was listening to Dinosaur and the bass playing really made me think off the way Krist would play when he was in Nirvana.
So how much was Dinosaur an influence of Nirvana??? I know Kurt asked J to drum for them, but did they ever play together or something?

I read in a book once that J played drums with
Nirvana for a while around 1990.

He was asked to but it did not work out and Chad Channing (I think that is his last name) did it instead.

Dinosaur were a big influence on nirvana, they practically laid the foundations for the music of the next 4 or 5 years.

i remember seeing Krist Novoselic in a Dino t-shirt as well…the one wiv a cow on it.

Also, Dave Grohl once said that he would like Nirvana to become a great band, like Dinasour Jr.
That’s all.
