Bucky RamoneParticipantQuote:"I was encouraged to sing in the first place by people like Dylan or J. Mascis, who weren’t singing because they had beautiful voices but because they had something to express"Kyp Malone, from ‘TV on the Radio’ in an interview with neumu.net

AatosParticipantThe worst singers often make the best music. J and Dylan are both great examples.

stannerParticipanthey JIMI used the Dylan reference too when told he didnt have that great a voice.
however i think saying "worst singers" is not accurate.
maybe unconventional or something-cause J & Dylan & JIMI definitely could/can sing.
its only Rock&Roll

AatosParticipantwith "worst" i meant "technically" when compared to singers like… hmm.. Like Iron Maidens singer. He knows how to use his voice and make effects with it, but its less interesting/personal than Dylan or J. Hope you got my point…

I have never heard J’s voice to sound bad except on the "Show me the way" recording, I know his voice may sound off to others but……never to me always sounds well, like Bob Dylan, his voice (he is a gemini) has always resonated (for lack of a better word) with me. That guy from Cold Play however, his voice makes my shoulders hunch up in tension and my stomach feel bad, music is so much about what resonates with you, Oh, oh, I know another one, Debbie Harry, that voice is uncomfortable to me, the other day some song by her came on while sitting in a coffee shop and I just kept wishing someone would turn it off because it made my heart chakra hurt, while say Nina Hagen, her voice, as harsh as she pushes it, does not bother me. My husband and his friend found some frequency web site that plays different tones for different types of healing etc…. I think certain sounds feel good to one person but not another.

SGParticipantI like Dylan`s voice too but sometimes he sounds different on various records.Victoria Williams` voice is`nt easy for some folks.I`ve heard people call her an angel while others say Yoko Ono(which would be opposite of an angel I guess
)I like Victoria`s voice cuz like J`s no one else can quite sound like that.

AnnastefkaParticipantI love Victoria Williams voice, she sounds like every other person you meet growing up in the south. My neighbors down the road call my husband "worn" although his name is "Juan" that is way they pronounce it.
My oldest son is going to be nine years old in 3 weeks and they still call him "baby worn" I still get a kick every Halloween you can always find a bunch of little girls who, when asked, will tell you they are going to be a
"we-itch" for Halloween. I love the southern vernacular. My Father, OMG, still has some good ones that come out. My first year in New York I live in a basement apartment that needed some repair, I called the land lord and told him the problem just needed a little cement, he said "What is Cement" I couldn’t believe he didn’t know what cement was. He asked is it a plant from the bottom of the ocean????????? The confusion lasted a few seconds until he told me that up North that word is not pronounced "Sea Mint" but something more like "Sument" Can you tell I have nothing but time on my hands because I must sit and hold the baby for nursing about 30 to 40 mins. at a time about 5 times a day. So here I sit. Writing up a storm.January 17, 2005 at 12:39 pm #106777
SGParticipantMemphis Minnie has a song called Haunted House Blues where she calls haunted ‘herted’.She was from Louisiana so it`s probably an accent thing.Even here in Canada there`s accents that differ from region to region.Like in Newfoundland they say boy as ‘by’.
