likeaghostParticipant…first a word or two ont he opening acts, Love as Laughter were cool. Powerish trio one song toward the end went many places; Cobra Verde weren’t as hard as when i saw them open for J solo in 2002, but they still rocked. Lead singer seemed mad crowd wasn’t into them more, one fan, a Mr. J Mascis seemed to like the set, at least the first part which J calmly watched from the side of the crowd left, by stage entrance, he walked out a bit before they went on, which answered my question as to wether he would be playing with them therefore i had nothing to say to him of meaning plus i hate bugging people who clearly don’t want to be bugged yet a few seemed to like trying to meet him, he dissapeared somewherein the middle. CObra Verde announced they were playing a Rolling Stones cover to try to please the crowd, as i was thinking what stones song i’d like to here they started up "Posession" by New Order, one of my all time favorite songs which made me laugh thinking of all the kids wondering what stones song they were playing.
on to Dinosaur Jr.
set list (i got a real copy from cool sound guy <thanks> scanned it in but don’t know how to attach, sorry)
Freakscene
Quest
Budge
Does it Float
Little Furry Things
Forget the Swan
Raisans
In a Jar
Mountain Man
Kracked
Sludgefeast
GargoyleE: Bulbs of Passion
Just like HeavenE2: the Lung
chunksshow was killer fun, best time ever at a show for me, J was on fire, messed up a lryic or two but his guitar steamed with sonic blast after blast after blast, his solo during Raisans was a personal highlight but every song felt that way. Low made jokes about how young the crowd was and even J seemed amused by his quib. Maybe they are getting along a bit, i doubt it but they are so good together in music on stage. Murph holds it all together and beats it down the line. Not as loud as i thought but sound was perfect. Wore ear plugs for opening act, but ripped them out as Possession started, difference is clear, muddy ear plugs are good for health but not for sound. Would have liked to hear No Bones and some others but am not going to complain about a setlist full of classics. So glad i hit this show and wish i was seeing more, keep the glove going…

[email protected]ParticipantYeah, amazing show. I was one of the young ones Lou pointed out.
Are you sure that setlist is correct? I thought Sludge was earlier in the set.

stimpParticipantYea tonight met my expectations to a tee……I was bummed when they closed the curtain and I said to my friend "Man I wish they would have played the lung!" then they reopened it and jammed right into and the last rites song chunks! Fucking killer show, I had a great time! Anyone possibly get a recording of this show?

King TubbyParticipantThey opened with Freak Scene, huh? I dig that — it reminds me of the couple years when Motorhead would open with Ace of Spades, basically saying, "If this one tune is what you came for, here it is! You can leave now if you want…."
Nice to see they’ve brought Quest back in.

kracked873Participantyou lucky bastards get quest haha, i saw 5 shows no quest, it was on the setlist at the 9 30 club but they ditched it. too bad. hopefully there’s a next time.

andyfestParticipantAre you sure the setlist isn’t backwards? Freakscene first and Gargoyle last? That’s completely opposite of most of the other setlists.
If that’s right I think it’s pretty awesome they opened with Freakscene!
July 20, 2005 at 7:04 am #111392
stimpParticipantYea I can verify Freak Scene being first….they came out and J went right into it! I’m going to Detroit tonight cause yesterday was so damn good I have to see it again!

clevelanderParticipantThe band was incredible last night … I knew they’d be good but I wasn’t expecting them to be THAT good. Holy crap!
Aside from Dinosaur’s remarkable performance – didn’t anyone else see Tim Parnin from Cobra Verde get clobbered with that tambourine?!!! Towards the end of their set, the lead singer tossed his tambourine up so it almost hit the ceiling. It arched and then came down right square on the guitar player’s head! It was one of the funniest damn things I’ve ever seen!
Got to go backstage afterwards. Very cool. J, Lou and Murph seemed to be getting along just fine. It’s great to have them back.

clevelanderParticipantThere were a couple minor technical gliches last night. J’s guitar cut out a few times and a crew member had to crawl out and help him mess with his foot pedals. It didn’t phase J, though. Imagine that.
Fellow Clevelander’s; Ante Up Audio on E36th hosted a private party in March featuring J solo. There are pics and mp3s available at anteupaudio.com.

dmr70ParticipantIs the setlist posted from the one you got from the sound guy or is that actually the order it was played?
Maybe it’s just me, but I thought "Forget The Swan" was later in the set. Anyone else remember?
To much surprise, "Freak Scene" was without a doubt the opener.
The show was fantastic, wish I could’ve hit Detroit tonight.BTW, the New Order song that Crapa Verde played is called "Temptation"

likeaghostParticipantman i feel like an idiot, it is temptation, which is one of my favorite songs, possession is a Sarah Macghlain tune i get confused with being the Rabbit in the Moon remix is so good and it along with New Order were staples of my techno fun filled daze, sorry and thanks. The set list is from the song guy and is pretty accurate i think. The Tamborine incident was funny as all get out, singer guy didn’t even notice where it landed but guitarist sure did. Comedy in J’s calm stating of the Mountian Man usual shouting, so intense night of fun filled rock outness, second encore caught alot of us by surprise, some might have missed it even, Lung was rocking, i wish they would rock out Just like Heaven after the single version ends but they just end it quick like that but still one of the alltime great covers…

jamclarkParticipantLong time boarder, old Turnip Farm web site maintainer and such. Dinosaur super-fan since age 14. (now 26).
Gf and I made it the show. It was awesome seeing the original lineup. Especially since they still had ‘it’ in them. I’ve seen Dinosaur / J about 10 times over the last 12 years or so, and besides the Chapel Hill 97 show, this was without the doubt, the best set I’ve seen any incarnation play.
There were some amusing technical glitches during the set. Lou was looking at his bass feeding back like it was possessed. J broke a string or two and had some minor issues with the pedal board.
Some general comments about the setlist. If anything of this comes off as whining, I’d just like to remind myself that I saw the origianl Dinosaur lineup, and I’m just nitpicking.
– Freak Scene was an awesome way to start off the set. It got everyone into the show out of the gate. The only other song that could have done that IMO would have been ‘Little Fury Things’.
– I was let down by the lack of stuff from Bug. Just FS and Budge (which Dinosaur played quite a bit in the 1990’s). I was hoping for ‘Yeah We Know’ or ‘They Always Come’. I know ‘The Post’ and ‘Let It Ride’ were pipedreams.
– It was great to see Lou singing some of the stuff off the first record. Mountain Man and Does It Float totally caught me off guard. I’m glad they skipped Repulsion, but I wouldn’t have aruged with a blistering version of Severed.
– Just Like Heaven was awesome with the abrupt ending, just like on record.
– Tarpit is my favorite tune off of YLAOM. I will survive without hearing it, I suppose.
– Merch report:
No posters (I even asked)
