It`s like the jazz clubs in NYC,the Village Vanguard in Greenwich Village has been there since the 1930`s but other famed jazz clubs like Birdland and the Five Spot are gone.

rambleonParticipantyes, i think there should be some sort of register of culturally-significant sites which can’t be messed with … kind of like the listed-building register over here, but not as high brow !

fata morganaParticipantThey are trying to gentrify the Bowery district with upscale crap condos–like everywhere else in the world and this is most obviously a pressure tactic to get leasors out. Fuck ’em, if that’s what it’s about..
