what about nomeansno? they be good
September 19, 2001 at 6:09 pm #65633
SGParticipantYeah,nomeansno has some good songs and 20 years is a impressive time to have a band together.
PB-this is a celine free zone.
and alanis too.September 19, 2001 at 11:09 pm #65634
rosaParticipantTony,
I believe Shadowy Men are indeed Canadian. I have one of their albums somewhere; pretty sure it was recorded in Canada. Do you know them from Kids in the Hall or does your taste just run that obscure?

bobParticipantI must add the weakerthans who not only don’t suck but are very good
September 20, 2001 at 10:36 am #65636
SGParticipantTony and Rosa-glad to hear you heard of the Shadowy Men,did`nt think you know them in the US,good to hear a good Canadian band is known in the US.I forgot about them,they were cool,they once teamed up with Jad Fair as well.
Bob-I knew you were going to mention the Weakerthans,I`ve heard 2 songs by them,sounds good.September 20, 2001 at 10:53 am #65637
AGAPParticipantHey,
Cool list, haven’t heard all of them but will probably check some out now that you mentioned them.
Wanted to add Transister Sound & Lighting Co…very cool band with some great sonic tunes. Only released one album that I know of, saw them more than a few times…thrilled me every single time.

SGParticipantAllison-I`ll check out that Transister Sound if I see it around.I think I saw it in a used store,next time I`m there I`ll check it out.
Mean Red Spiders are way cool,sound like MBV and JAMC.September 20, 2001 at 11:29 pm #65639
Cloud9ParticipantSome More Great Canadian Bands:
* Hayden
* Howie Beck
* Lullaby For The Working Class
* Bodega
* The Chords of Canada
September 21, 2001 at 12:48 pm #65640
SGParticipantAs I was telling Freak in the chat room,lullaby for the working class are from Nebraska.
Bodega I saw on tv,was`nt too impressed.I have diverse tastes so some of those bands I mentioned before you may not like,so keep that in mind.
Allison-You have`nt said a word about the Eric`s Trip gig I said to check out,hope you did`nt hate them,maybe that`s why you did`nt mention anything about it;I read some comments about it on a site,the same show you saw,they said it was good.If you did`nt like them it`s ok with me it`s not going to offend me,they are sloppy but that`s the charm.September 21, 2001 at 5:40 pm #65641
SGParticipantIn 91 Neil toured with Sonic Youth and Social Distortion,imagine seeing that!
More good Canadian bands:
Do Make Say Think
Oh Susanna
Neko Case
Orange Glass
MoonsocketSeptember 22, 2001 at 2:03 am #65642
AGAPParticipantHey Salamiguy,
Eric’s Trip were great, played all the hits and more, including i think 4 encores. They were sloppy and very very loud but thats the charm like you said…I loved them. We got there as they pulled up in their van…they tour Econo Place was packed, three bands warmed up, couple guys standing on the railing next to me were screaming EMO SUCKS thru their whole shows. Kinda rude but they were pretty funny and accurate about the sucking part anyways but some people seemed to enjoy them.
Allison
I think I have a set list somewhere, if I can find it I will post it. There were a couple people recording the show video and otherwise so hopefully can find that sometime.
sorry I was being sloppy and forgot about posting stuff about the show.September 22, 2001 at 2:33 am #65643
SGParticipantI saw on Yahoo people talking about the show you saw and other shows,everyone seemed to like it,no complaints.
Did the opening bands suck?it happens alot you go to see someone and you have to stand through some halfassed band,like when Neil Young played here,moist opened,I would`nt be able to stand them so I missed out on Neil.
The whole emo term is getting crazy,people don`t know what it is,I don`t know what it is anymore,it used to be screaming singers and pseudo metal riffs mixed with punk,now it seems to be any band,Modest Mouse has been called emo!
I think Eric`s Trip must have been smelling the same air from central massachussetts that J,Lou,and Murph smelled,maybe it`s in the water system from Mass. to New Brunswick.
They always got compared to Sonic Youth,I don`t hear that predominately,more Dinosaur/Sebadoh than anything else,they named themselves after a SY song,maybe they should have called themselves The Lung or Severed Lips or Repulsion!Glad You liked the show.
September 22, 2001 at 2:53 am #65644
AGAPParticipantHey,
Gotta agree on the Dinosaur influence on Erics Trip versus SY…In A Jar would have been a cool name… The warm up bands did suck, the second band was from Ontario somewhere but I can’t remember their name. They kept running into walls and each other while playing… The guys screaming emo sucks were pretty funny even if they were being pretty rude…they loved Eric’s Trip I think the first band was called Projektor or something like that…definitely not for me.
I cannot imagine Moist opening for Neil Young, thats just one of the worst matches I have ever heard Shame you had to miss it thou, can you imagine all the little girls heading to that show just for the Moist fix…omg I feel like I may be sick…only been two years for me
