staingirlParticipantHey Guys,
I don’t know if there are any Butthole Surfer fans here, but I was wondering what people thought of the new album.
I love them, but I think this new album SUCKS! I bought it as soon as it came out without even downloading anything ( never doing that again!) but I didn’t think I needed to seeing as it was the Butthole Surfers, one of my fav bands.
I don’t know…maybe they’re getting old and need money, maybe they’ve done too much acid…but I’m seriously reconsidering my trip to Seattle next week to see them. October 25, 2001 at 10:06 pm #67528

I thought it definitely in the same vein as earlier releases. I never was a huge BHS fan, but this seems right in line with the older albums of theirs I have.

K7 Rides AgainParticipantHey, I love the buttholesurfers, older stuff though. Don’t have the newest, I was just planning on seing’em when there here in 3 weeks. Tell me how the show is after you go, if you even go, maybe I’ll save some cash! (although…I’ll probably go see’em anyways since I never have before)

CaleParticipantI must say that I didn’t enjoy their new album as much as I did their older stuff…though, I don’t have to cancel any show plans for them, as they’re playing 21+ venue here

HalfmanParticipantStaingirl and Co.,
Got this new one not knowing what to expect, but had doubts going in. Confirmed them, as far as thinking they have took most of the improv out of the sound. Not crazy about using a drum machine instead of King Coffey either. However the lyrics save the album from complete failure and seem reminiscent of older albums.Don’t know what is with the hip-hop fixation, but give me the glory days of Hairway to Steven, Psychic, Powerless, Another Man’s Sac and Rembrandt Pussyhorse anyday.

staingirlParticipantHey Jaron,
Really?!!! I really liked ‘ElectricLarryLand’ (the one before last); Pepper was a bit more commercial and more pop, but the rest of the album rocked.
As for ‘Weird Revolution’, every song has that beat behind it. It sounds like 12 versions of a more technoish Pepper. The only cool thing about the new album is the cover. That’s just my opinion though.Hey Cale… sorry to hear about the 21+ venue. I hated that when I was younger! I had to miss Dinosaur Jr once for that reason. (Didn’t stop me from trying though) The more I think about their older stuff, the more I think I should go. And I’ve seen them three times in the past and they were great every time. Well… except maybe for when I saw them with Nirvana…somebody threw a shoe and it hit Gibby in the head , so they walked off before their set was finished.
Kurticus7, you should go! Maybe we can compare stories.October 26, 2001 at 2:29 am #67533

</strong><hr></blockquote>Normally it doesn’t stop me either, but I doubt I will try this time…Now I have to go off topic and tell one of my stories
Last August Mudhoney was playing two dates, Aug. 30th in L.A. and Aug. 31st in San Diego (21+)…I went to the show in L.A., it was like a 3 hour drive from my house, and I met Mark Arm outside before the show…I told him I lived in San Diego and that I couldn’t attend the show the next night cause I wasnt old enough, so I had to drive up there to see them…He was very nice to me, and very apologetic…He told me to come down to the show the next night if I could make it and talk to him…So, of course I went down there and waited outside for him to get there….When he got there, I talked to him, and he sent the band members out 1 by 1 to chat with me for like 5 minutes, what a great experience, ALL of them were VERY nice guys…After Dan Peters came out and talked to me, he told me to wait and he would send Mark Arm back out for me …When Mark came out, he said ‘come on in with us’, so I went in, and it was me and mudhoney alone in the club….Mark said since I wasn’t able to attend the show that night, they were going to do a soundcheck for me….So they played one song, and then security asked me to leave, and Steve Turner was like ‘No, he’s with us’…Then they played two more songs, and talked to me in between…They asked me what I wanted them to play, and they were very cool guys…
Sorry for ranting, heh

GREAT story. You should post it in the "best concert experience" ever thread we’ve had going for a while. There’s some awesome stories in there too.

SGParticipantCool story Cale,it`s good to see a band that`s nice to their fans.
I heard a story on another site about a guy asked the Flaming Lips to take his cd that his band made, and Wayne Coyne said that they already had a thousand cd`s from people and refused it.
He decided that he`d ask J after Dinosaur played a gig,j gave him a nod and took it from him and did`nt give him any speeches.October 26, 2001 at 4:38 pm #67538

Also, this brings me to my second point – wasn’t someone supposed to be sending me a shirt? I vaguely seem to remmeber something of that nature.

staingirlParticipantCale,
Wow, that is such a cool story! When I saw J Mascis in Seattle, I noticed Dan Peters from Mudhoney was there.
We should start a thread on our experiences with meeting musicians and/or some of the best concerts we’ve been to.January 4, 2002 at 10:59 pm #67540

throbbParticipanti saw the butthole surfers on this tour about two months ago and it was an all right show. they played mostly old stuff, only four songs off the new album, one off larryland, and two off worm saloon. the band didn’t seem that into it. it seemed like they did the same thing for every show and didn’t put much thought into it anymore.
the best part was the video screen in the back that showed some weird-as-hell movies. the movies alone made it worth going to the concert. there was one point where they showed machine gun tribal male circumcisions–like one right after another–bam bam bam. it was intense.
go to the show, but don’t expect it to blow you away (except for the circumcisions–oh yeah!!)
