Freakscene:I think this song is about social circles in high schools and cliques, and how some kids don`t fit in to them;I also think it refers to the underground music scene before the grunge age and how it was`nt taken seriously.
No Bones-A common theme in J`s lyrics is miscommunication, not connecting to a person, this song is one of those.
They Always Come-"They always come in twos…" could refer to couples J sees in love while he`s having a difficult time in a relationship, like spliting up with a girl.
Yeah We Know-I think this song deals with stress and not being able to deal with things mentally-" pushed too far see the skin begin to scar"refers to mental scars I think not physical scars.
Let It Ride-trying to come to grips with situations in your life and not "letting it all slide",face up to things and not avoid your problems.
Pond Song-another lack of communicating song-"there`s a love but it won`t show",he`s hoping things with his girlfriend will improve but does`nt think it will.
Budge-dating a girl but warning that there`s "tons of rubble to sift through"and "picture me with you"do you want to date me?think what it would be like and what her friends would say.J being an outsider maybe her friends or parents would`nt agree with the relationship,"why don`t you just budge",he`s trying to tell her that she should`nt be stuck on deciding whether she should see him or not.
The Post-about having a person to lean on like a post, tell his troubles to and help him deal with problems and love him.
Don`t-"why don`t you like me"-lack of acceptence in school or society in general.
trying to understand being hated and disenfranchised.

That`s my interpretation of the songs from Bug,everyone is going to have a different spin on things, some may agree or disagree but there is no right answer, that`s what interpretation is.

Fair enough my main man. Sounds good to me.
And who are we to doubt the one true music oracle of Freakscene? I mean that sincerley.

I mean I could post an appropriate response, my own verdict, but I’ll have to listen and think about it ok?

And I only write in questions- don’t I?

Thanks for the compliments Nige.I think Tony and Kurticus7 do a great job on interpreting J`s lyrics ,I think we need more people responding to figuring out what they think J is trying to say.

damnit SG! now ya gots me mind ta wanderin’ and I have soooooo much school work ta da! Would love to sit down and really get into all these, esp. since you took the time to start each song for the whole album. Will be several days b4 I’m back here though. So much school (i’ve had about 20 whole minutes to myself today). but I will 4 sure start a bust down on ’em!

Anthony G summed up post and I don’t really think it needs any more. "she’s my post to lean on, and I just cut ‘er down"…yeah, he fucked someone over. hopefully she’ll still be there to support him (or at least someone will) before he falls down.

Don’t is pretty self explanatory too. I think feeling ostracised would be a good word for it…or martyr (maybe) you know…the anguish he’s expressing.

Anyways, talk to all WEDS.
Peace, kurtis

I have just spent the last ten minutes ranting about why I think people should not be writing about J’s lyrics, but not wanting to upset those "on a higher plane" decided against writing it.

Let’s not get to stage where we’re sucking each other’s dicks so much "one true oracle of freakscene??!!" what the fuck?

Remember, in the great words of Orwell – "all freaksceners are equal – but some are more equal than others".

Feeling angry, time to find someone smaller than me.

I did`nt like reading into J`s lyrics,Kurticus7 suggested people break down the songs in their meaning and I decided to try a go at it.
All freaksceners are equal,I agree on that,I like to hear what everyone has to say,Nige`s comments I appreciate but he should realize that other`s thoughts and insights are important here,J did`nt make me a Mascis apostle or something,I`m no more right then anyone else here, there`s no right answer to members interpretations of J`s lyrics.

with you on that salami – how about we talk about what the songs mean to us (ie where we were when we first heard them, how they translate to us, hard times that they have meant things to us, etc), rather than what we think he meant.

EG – when I first heard Keeblin’ was on a Peel session – I was about 16 and the instrumental filled me with both despair and divine inspiration. How many tracks do that? Straight away, it was on a tape to my (at that time) ladyfriend and ever since has been a track that I go back to when I need lifting/levelling.

Yeah,I like that idea Javro.

Freakscene-first heard it around Feb 93 on a radio show on the college station.I was in high school and trying to pass my courses. The "what a mess" lyric reminds me of the winter that year, alot of snow and slush and ice storms, walking down the street with my sneakers soaken with that song in my head.

when I originally started this, I was wondering what others think these songs meant. I was trying to get others take on the lyrics because I was curious as to just how other people interpreted them. It’s very interesting to see others thoughts to them. We often have very different ideas as to what the same words mean as I have discovered. It also was to help me interpret some stuff I didn’t understand. It was nice to hear what other people thought stuff meant to help clarify my own position. If we agree that’s cool, and if not, that’s cool too. I just wanted know how other people read into these songs.
