kockneyParticipantwell i decided to give it a go, depite misgivings about the uber noise/tourlag inspired doodling/dodgy half-learnt cover versions etc
I cant imagine it will be a crowded gig, not in brighton where a different sort of music is more popular amnong the predominantly gay youth population, but the dome is an interesting venue. It may well fall down under the sonic attack
and as a filip. my 70 year old mother is doing a charity parachute jump that morning so it should be a day and a half

ammaringnycParticipantyeah, you’ve got to wonder about the logic behind touring Brighton and yet missing out on Bristol..
i’m in Cardiff, and whilst i wasn’t expecting j to make it across the severn i thought a major uk tour would head to bristol…
i’m getting a little sick of havin’ to travel cross-country to see the beast (underworld and astoria)…
it better be worth it ‘cos i too am a little worried by the prevalence of stooges material and lack of dino choones.. May 30, 2001 at 10:39 am #62105
JavroModeratorHi Kockney
See you at the Pavillion – I’ll make sure I spill even more of my booze on ya this time.
May 30, 2001 at 11:58 am #62106
stavParticipantPlease note the Brighton gig is at the Pavillion Theatre, not the Dome, and is even smaller (capacity 350). It is quite possible, having seen The Fog in London in November that they will blow the place down – seems unsuitable, but I’ll be there.
Pretty sure it will be sold out, and please note that the youth of Brighton are not predominantly gay – there is simply a sizeable gay element; not that it matters as we all live happily and broad-mindedly together – unlike some parts of the couintry! Anyway, most of the audience will be over 30!

SludgeFeastParticipantBrighton is not yet sold out – I got a ticket from the Pavillion Box Office today. Going to Shepherds Bush Empire on Friday and Brighton on Saturday. 2 very different venues – A friend descibes the Pavillion as ‘Tiny’ and a strange choice by J. Nevertheless, I doubt it will be as loud as The Astoria last December !

kockneyParticipantwell if he gets all his backline in, we could all lose our hearing.
btw wherabouts is the pavilion, in the ‘pavilion’ itself? surely not?

SludgeFeastParticipantNo – The Pavillion is 200 years old. It looks sturdy enough, but with J in town best not take any chances.
Instead, they’ve booked the Pavillion Theatre – which is part of the Brighton Dome complex. It is next door to the Royal Pavillion, so expect some minor external damage to occur due to the noise.

SludgeFeastParticipantIt seems that J will not in fact be playing music on Friday, but will instead be reading a selection of his favourite poetry.
What other reason can there be for these gems found on the back of the ticket for Friday :-
"Mobile phones and pagers must be turned off, and watches silenced, before entering the auditorium". Watches silenced ?????? Are they worried that an electric watch that bleeps hourly will drown out JM&TF ?
"Latecomers will not be admitted until a suitable break in the performance". (Presumably after the main set and whilst J has a slash before the encore starts !)
Let’s hope J reads us some Pam Ayres.

Js body doubleParticipanthey,
does anyone know if i was the youngest person there, i qm 14 and i dont think i saw any other young people there, except my friend who is a couple of months older than me! anyway, the gig kicked arse, and the best bit was at the end, i was looking around the stage for souvenirs when i spotted them, the drumsticks sitting in a little holder on the kit. the cool roadie guy who was very happilly playing with js guitars during the set backstage, was clearing up, i tried desperately to get his attention, in the end i just grabbed his legs and pointed at the sticks, he went and got them and gave one to me and one to my friend! how cool! it is now happily hung up in my room above the cool free sticker that they were giving out, thanks for a great evening guys!
bye, alexps. has everyones ears stopped ringing yet?
pps.is any of the people who were up the front with me here?
ppps. who pinched my friends arse?
