jeremiahKeymasterWe saw this happen a few years back with Sonic Youth & Frank Black.
Quote:Brian Jonestown Massacre is scheduled to play an acoustic show at Pianos tomorrow. Don’t know how this news will affect it…"Okay folks, so apparently a relatively tragic thing has happened tonight. In Brooklyn, before the BJM’s Bowery Ballroom show, the band’s van along with the U-haul trailer containing ALL OF THE BANDS EQUIPMENT was stolen. People I guess have hustled to get stuff together for them to play the gig tonight but that leaves Anton, Rickey, Frankie, Collin, and Dan without a vehicle and most importantly, without all of their precious musical instruments and amplifiers…
If everyone in the area (or even not so close) keeps an eye out at pawn shops, music stores, private sellers, and even e-bay for this missing gear-it could help eventually track some of it down.
We’ll try to provide a more comprehensive list eventually- but off the top of my head is this-
Gretch 1960’s round badge drum kit-turquoise.
-kick drum has the BJM logo on it (who knows- the robbers might be stupid enough not to take it off)Fender Bassman 1960’s blackface head
-notable that the ‘B’ is blackend out so that it reads "assman"
-this is one of the most unique and amazing sounding bass rigs, has a really warm, big fucked up fuzz sound when turned up.Frankie’s 1970’s siverface Fender Twin amp
2 Fender Twin re-issue black face amps
– the one Anton plays is notable for it’s amazing huge sounding reverb.
Basically it is a huge part of Anton’s sound.
-notable for a sticker on the front that reads "Masonic" (again, the bandits might be stupid enough…)Collin’s Rickenbacker bass- red Rickey’s 12-string 1960’s Gibson ES-335 (possibly (hopefully) he had this with him and it was not stolen)
-amazingly beautiful guitarVox Cheetah- maroon
-quite fucked up from years of tour abuse, but Anton’s main guitar (owned by Frankie)
Vox 12-string Phantom- black and white
Vox 12-string Starstreamer- sunburst teardrop shapeRickenbacker 12-string 360- black and white Epiphone 6-string- sunburst
Frankie also has a Telecaster- I’m not sure the details of it.I’m sure there was more but if people spread the word out there for this gear and people keep their eyes open- some of it might pop up- especially being sold/bought together, then there might be a chance of retrieving some of this stuff.
As of now, I do not know what will happen with the few remaining shows of the tour. We gotta still figure out how to get the guys home!
Anyway, it’s a terrible situation- a band’s worst nightmare- and maybe
through everyone’s love and support we can get through it and hopefully getting some of the stuff back will lessen this huge blow that was dealt to the Brian Jonestown Massacre. Please repost, spread the word, and keep an eye out."

AnnastefkaParticipantdoes stuff like that a serial numbers? Amps must right, heck I don’t know, but any quality musical instrument will have some sort of identifyingfactory number. Keep on the cops to run a "pawn search" for the surrounding states, NJ,CT,PA,MA. If those who took the stuff have any smarts they’re going to move it out of NY as soon as possible. They would be dumb crooks to try e-bay! Hey, if they were any smarter they might have jobs so you never know. I hope those guys have some identifying numbers for they’re stuff Bassman changed to assman will not work!

AGAPParticipanteven more, Raveonettes had tons of their gear stolen, if you have that much gear on the street overnight sounds like it might be time to hire security to keep it safe..
Black Mountain, Raveonettes, Mae Shi Gear Stolen
Matthew Solarski reports:
Indie rock is an ugly rollercoaster ride. One minute you’re opening for Coldplay, the next minute your livelihood is torn from you in the dead of night. Gear theft has become a sorry phenomenon of late, striking Brian Jonestown Massacre and Mahogony a few weeks ago. Sonic Youth finally recovered precious instruments stolen from them six years ago just this summer, but not every story has such a happy ending.Add the Raveonettes, Black Mountain, and the Mae Shi to this lamentably growing list of hard-working musicians whose lifeblood has been purloined in recent weeks. Goddammit, why can’t somebody take Switchfoot’s guitars or something?
The Raveonettes were victimized in Brooklyn sometime between 10pm October 6 and 9am October 7. Word spread fast about the theft and someone has already posted decoy eBay listings to alert would-be buyers of contraband. A damn fine idea, that. The band encourages anyone with any information pertaining to the theft to contact [email protected]. Judging from the detailed list (complete with serial numbers) supplied to Pitchfork by the Raveonettes’ tour manager, the fiends could single-handedly revive shoegaze with this stash they made off with:

And misdeeds come in threes, apparently: On October 3, Tim of 5RC recording artists the Mae Shi awoke to find his car window smashed in and $1300 worth of CDs and EPs gone. The thievery went down in L.A., so if you come upon some shifty Hollywood street vendor peddling copies of Terrorbird and Heartbeeps right next to boots of X&Y and Late Registration, it’s time to get medieval. Contact [email protected] or "drop them off next to the abandoned stove in the front yard of 545 S. St. Andrews Place in between Fifth and Sixth."
Undaunted, but in financial peril, the Mae Shi soldier onward with their nationwide mega-tour. And boy do we mean soldier: the junket includes a balls-out 35-date consecutive stretch. Zowie. There’s never been a better time to introduce your friends to arty spazz-rock:

Of course most of us here reading this know these crimes are probably related, too much of a coincidence! This is too organized, these aren’t some junkies looking for a fix, I bet ya’ anything, this stuff is being taken outside of the U.S. Can’t get rid of it with all of those known serial numbers very easily, unless you take it to a place that doesn’t use "ncic" (not Canada) on a regular basis…..ummm say any of our fine neighboring counties to the South, like all the way down to South America! Just a not completely educated guess. I will keep a copy of the numbers and run them around at work and see what comes up but I don’t have high hopes for the stuff to show up but we can wait and see. I have a friend from California and he comes to Athens to play music once in a blue moon, he has the best security money can buy, a dog, a Blue Heeler, dogs work better than ADT or anything else for that matter.
