FlyingCloudParticipantThe last days were exhausting for me and I really had no time for that Berlin trip, but I made it anyway and it was worth while
The venue was tiny and tight packed with friendly and enthusiastic people and everybody was in a good mood.J played acoustic guitar (changing between 2 acoustic guitars actually) like on Martin & Me but the guitar was amplified with some effects, so he did some solos as real electric guitar solos (very close to the original album version, e.g. Get me and Ammaring). That was an amazing and surprising effect – hope you can follow the description, I’m not a guitar player.
This set list is not complete and not totally in the right order, it’s just like I remind it. I hope Turnipfarmer can complete it.

RepulsionIt was just one encore, but afterwards J stood a whole while on the stage, giving autographs.
The Club was so small, they didn’t even give out tickets at the entrance, so I had nothing to write on. Well, I bought another copy of More Light and he signed it
I’m sorry that I didn’t get in contact with Turnipfarmer before the show, because I didn’t have internet access the last days. So i just hope you have been there and you enoyed it as much as I did. I didn’t make pics or a recording. Sorry, don’t have the technology.
Well, if anyone of you has the chance to catch one of J’s acoustic gigs: Don’t miss it!

HalfmanParticipantThanks for the review.
Half of those songs I could not imagine being done acoustically. Am excited to get a taste in Chicago.

turnipfarmerParticipant"Hanging out in Mitte" J mumbled between 2 of his amazing interpretations of dinosaur jr classics and recent releases. that was kinda tribute to the district in the heart of Berlin where the show took place. it was the Oranienburger Straße where hundreds of people were strolling this evening as everyday as it is on of the most attractive places to spend your nighttime. we arrived there at about a quater to 8. I was totally shocked first when I saw the huge queue in front of the Tacheles. my steady dropped me out of the car and I jumped into the fray. but my pulse calmed down soon as I figured out that most of the folks were attending an art event that occured right next to the Tacheles Café. I quickly grabbed two "tix" (stamped blank notes with no. 15 & 16 handwritten on it ) and picked up my girl again after she was looking for a parking spot for about an hour. as we entered the venue only a few tens of fans were around but it soon changed, and finally when J appeard at 10pm as scheduled the café was packed out with people. as we were standing quite far back it was hard to jostle towards the stage. but I had a good few in the end to take some photos. hope they’ll be fine. J seemed to be in well conditions. he was in a good mood, stable on his feet and quite chatty.
I was absolutely amazed by the show like all the other fans around. the crowd was really loud and a big bunch was singing along to J’s songs. I was completely overwhelmed how many fans have made it to come as it was not much promotion done for the show.
J was giving autographs?! Aaargghh, I could bite myself into the arse! but we had to leave the building quickly as my steady wasn’t feeling well.
Flying Cloud, glad you enjoyed the show and I hope you spent a good time in Berlin. I checked my albums to complete the setlist, not much to add but worth to mention:
Quest
Keep The Glove
Throw Down
Keeblinas there are so many newbies registering at freakscene.net every month, I bumped up the "has everyone seen…" topic in the news/stories forum again. there is an acoustic concert available which comes very close to J’s acoustic shows this autumn.

SGParticipantSounds like it was cool show,FC and TF.
Cool that J still plays older songs, some artists don`t bother with older material, they just want to play newer songs.October 29, 2001 at 3:20 pm #62337
passionParticipant…sounds cool J was giving autographs…hope he adds more concerts…

FlyingCloudParticipantthanks Turnipfarmer, for the missing songs on the set list. I knew there were more, but didn’t get it together.
The queues in front of the venue made me nervous, too, but on a second look they didn’t look like Mascis-fans with their suits and ties
As I came early, I caught one of the few chairs that stood alongside the wall near the stage. Standing on it I had a very good view.[ October 30, 2001: Message edited by: Flying Cloud ]</p>

turnipfarmerParticipanthey AGAP & FC,
yeah, I was pretty nervous, but it was the same to me as to you, FC. but even J fans can wear those clothes, sometimes have to put suits and ties on myself, not in such occasions though.
hope it will turn out all right on your wishes J to come near to you soon, Allison!

SludgeFeastParticipantJ giving autographs ????? Some mistake surely. When I’ve seen J he normally leaves the stage whilst playing the last few bars. You hear him, but don’t see him !
On the other hand, Mike Watt packs up his own gear and will talk to anyone. Even me. After reading the Minutemen section of Michael Azzerads great book, it seems he has always done this. Would be a bit weird to see J do the same thing.
Glad to hear J’s back on tour again so soon after the accident.Hearing ‘Severed Lips’ as an encore – now that’s the ultimate for me.

FlyingCloudParticipantI know it for sure, because I saw it myself (and got an autograph, too).
J stood a whole while, holding a felt pen, ready to sign things and to talk to some of the people. Soon there was a little queue and he signed patiently until the last one in the line had his signature.
Maybe because there was no Watt around, doing the talking …
J even signed some girls’ wrists or even backs.
Well, I was surprised, too, how relaxed he was after the show November 4, 2001 at 8:45 pm #62344
FlyingCloudParticipantI forgot to mention another thing:
There were projections of a slide (a pic of a child) before and during the show, and, more important, there were some digital video camera projections of the actual show whilst some songs.
There must have been someone with a camera, filming the show from a good spot.
Maybe the recordings at least of some songs or of the whole show still exist somewhere.
The video projection on the stage might have been organized by City Slang or the likes. Maybe they know, if the recordings still exist and where they might be November 7, 2001 at 4:40 pm #62345
