I thought about another rumor, actually it came from Bob Mould so it`s problably true.
When Husker was first starting out they were going to play a gig with the Clash in Minneapolis. The problem was the gig was in a bad part of town,so Bob told Joe Strummer"we may get shot but if that does`nt bother you,we`ll do it!"

I read alot of music information and hear about stuff on the radio. So I thought I`d Mention some rumors I`d heard:
Husker and VH:
The money to make Husker Du`s Zen Arcade was rumored to be from David Lee Roth and other Van Halen members! We should ask Watt about this and see what he knows since he was closely associated with SST records.
Husker`s Greg Norton:
Husker bassist Norton did`nt play on the studio records!Mould and Hart disliked his playing they would play the bass.It is possible that Norton played on some songs when they thought his playing was good and during live shows it was certainly Norton always playing bass.
Slint In Spiderland:
After Slint finished they`re spiderland record their mental state was unstable.rumor has it that they spent a short time in a mental hospital.
Sid Vicious Unplugged!:
The Pistols used to unplug Vicious`s bass because he could`nt play!He never knew the difference!
Smog and Prince:
Remember Smog`s song `Prince` from their Wild love album? When Bill Callahan(Smog) played in Minneapolis during the mid-90`s he was forbid to play the song live after Prince`s lawyers spoke to Callahan and told him Prince was offended by the song and not to play it live.Callahan agreed and no longer plays it to my knowledge.
Remember Pavement`s tribute song to REM;`The unseen power of the picket fence`?
Michael Stipe heard it and reacted that Pavement was making fun of them; After an explaination from Pavement and told Stipe that they admired REM, Stipe made a guest apperence at a tv show performance of Pavement;when they played the song Stipe danced across the stage!
Anyway that`s a few things I heard;I like to say I`m not trying to dig up dirt or slander any of the artists,If any of the artists read this or their friends I`m sorry if you take it the wrong way.I`d like to get to the truth of these rumors;if anyone else knows some info on these stories or any others they can mention it,let`s not be too slanderous though
I hope not to offend anyone.

Hey,

Like I said…..

Have heard that Husker Du now own the rights to their catalogue from SST…which would be very cool. Apparently some issues with cash…no doubt. In a recent interview Grant talked about this, saying he was not going to sign anything unless Greg got his fair share…hmmmm interesting. Could be one of the reasons Bob deletes some of the Grant Hart threads started on his site…wow cash can be the great divider.

Dave Vanian from the Damned was a grave digger at one time…who knows he may keep it up as a hobby. I think Captain Sensible scrubbed toilets….ick. Saw the Captain when I was in London in an odd series of interpretations of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell Tale Heart. He was great, read the story in his beret and glasses inside this big clock face…very very cool. I was hypnotized by his greatness. The show quickly deteriorated after his bit so we went to get a pint in the lobby….there was the Captain having beverages with his parents….ahhhhhhh Got a poster though, block mounted it, now hanging above the fireplace…very cool.

Oh yeah Greg from Husker Du is apparently an amazing chef at some place in Minneapolis…another musician who cooks

Greg Norton works at a restaurant in St.Paul`s,Minn. called the Table Of Contents;heard this on the radio.
I also heard that at a Sugar press conference someone on the radio attended said when someone asked Mould where Norton is nowadays he said"He`s bagging groceries or something somewhere".I find Bob a nice guy usually from interviews but I guess with his former bandmates he can be different.Kind of like with Lou Barlow talking about J,I heard lou in 1993 at the local college station and hung around with his Fiance,at that time, they must be married now and was generally cool and made some requests for tunes(Palace,Bikini Kill,King Kong,Nirvana,Painteens)He never said a word about J or dinosaur,in interviews it seems he talks about J frequently, maybe interviewers tell him to sound off about J to make an interesting interview?dissing J does`nt sit well with me.
Rat Scabies from the Damned has this electro jazz project I heard on the radio,I forget the name of it,but it`s two guys from Loop Guru and a jazz singer who they did`nt name on the radio, has some jazzy drumming from Rat;very cool!
Robert Fripp from King Crimson said Captain Sensible is"a tasteful guitarist"high praise from Fripp who is regarded as a guitar genius.
I hope Husker does`nt fight about the rights in court like the Dead Kennedys did,Biafra was pretty disgusted with the greed, here is a punk band who strongly oppossed capitalism and what happens when they get older?they feed it.At least Biafra knows it.I hope other punks stay true to their convictions.
